    Found a good S4

    Hi,

I have been looking for months for a perfect S4. I finally found one. It is a 2011, with super low miles, 15k miles, all the must have options. All of the other ones have either been too high mileage, not enough options, etc. So I test drove it today, fell in love and am planning to make a deposit if everything goes well. My question is this S4 along with a lot of the others I have seen have some paint imperfections. I am OCD and am just wondering how picky I should be. It is going to be a DD and weekend/track car. It is going to get used and I drive almost 20k miles per year. So this one has a scratch in the front bumper which is 2 inches long and deep. Could be touched up and has been but I would want to redo it. Can only see it when you get eye level 2 ft away. Also there is a small paint chip down just through the clear maybe 2cm round on the front fender and also a small 3 inch scratch on the driver side door. So do most of your cars have a few scratches. No rock chips at all, no curb rash, everything else perfect. Just some minor paint issues. I would touch them up then clear bra over it to keep it perfect. I pointed these things out and they took $1k off the price and also offered to spot fix everything for me but I would want to do it myself.

    Your help is appreciated.

If those few paint flaws are the only thing wrong with it, I'd go for it! I'm OCD as well, and have adjusted to the few imperfections we've accumulated over the past 3 years. It's impossible to avoid every little chip that comes along, even if you've made it your mission in life to do so. Enjoy the car and don't worry about it so much (that's what my wife keeps telling me LOL!

Yea, my car is only a year old and I have more than one chip on the hood. It made me crazy at first but now I brush it off. The alternative would be to not drive this badass car, or get a clear bra which I probably will on the next one.

If I found the perfect car, I definitely would not pass it over because of a couple minor paint imperfections. Those are to be expected in a used car.

Sounds like a good find. I just started shopping for a B8 S4 myself, do you mind if I ask about what the asking price is for that car? I'm trying to get a sense for what to pay for a 2010/2011 in good condition.

My car has 2 paint chips on the hood from rocks and I've only owned it 6 months. This is going to happen.

Jump on it - you won't find a car with miles that low again. I wouldn't even negotiate the $1k if you are scared of losing it. With a good professional detail and wax you won't notice minor paint imperfections. Shouldn't run you more than $300-$400.

If you take it out on track it's going to get small marks here and there, but not nearly as bad as northeast winter roads.

Really depends on price. You shouldn't be too concerned about paint chips or small scratches if you plan on taking it to the track.

Also I am going to clear bra it and I am thinking I would touch up any issues and then put it over that. Does that sound right because I don't want to respray the areas. I think touching up is the better option.

You should be able to find a low mileage 2012 for around $40,000. Is this 2011 you found CPO? What's your negotiated buy price? It may be the right car for you, just don't overpay for it.

I just bought my 2011 S4 about a month ago. I had been tracking several S4's via AutoTrader. The car I bought had an original asking price of $39,900 (Premium plus w/Nav MMI, Sport Diff, 15,600miles, Non-CPO). Over the course of a week, the price slowly dropped to $39,750 and I negotiated off that price (dealer had three S4's on the lot). Of course, the car was in Lincoln, NE and I had to drive from Boulder, CO to get it but it was worth it because all the cars in the Denver metro area had high miles and high prices. When I checked KBB and NADA, the price was in line so I went for it--very happy.

    Good luck with your search!

Yes CPO and the final price after negotiating is $39k. I am happy with that deal. My question is, I am going to touch up the areas then put the clear bra on. Is that ok because I don't want to have to respray the front then clear bra it. Considering there are just two small areas with issues.

Ok so… about to put down the deposit. I want to confirm though that I am putting an xpel film on the car. There is a small scratch in the bumper I will touch up. If it isn't perfectly flat will the clear film still stick properly if there is the smallest indent?

Thanks guys! Glad to almost be part of the S4 family.

Clear bras are about as invisible as a condom. It looks like a yellow plastic bag on the hood. I think it looks worse than any rock chip.

Haha, ok yes I am going with xpel which is supposed to not yellow, my question is can I apply it over touch up or do I need to fully respray. Thanks westwest.

Probably best to ask Xpel or an installer directly. There is someone from Xpel in the forums so if you search for Xpel you will find a thread where they participated and PM them.

FWIW, I think film is great is you drive a lot. Xpel Ultimate will yellow on a white car but if it does it is dirty and can be cleaned. They have 10-year warranty including for yellowing. I had 3M on 3 cars and was happy with that too. Switched to Xpel Ultimate for S4 on installer's recommendation.
