Let me jump in here as the potential seller in this situation to clear a few things up for those who are skeptical about this deal:
-I'm selling the car mainly because the monthly lease payment + insurance + gas is well over $1k and I really don't drive it anymore after moving in with my girlfriend, so, I'd like to save that $1k a month to put towards a house.
-the 4k miles over the 5k service was definitely my bad. I work a lot and used to drive around to meetings every day. I was at about 5100 miles or 5200 miles and trying to find a time to get it into the dealer when I had to go to Las Vegas for some work and then was to drive to San Francisco from there for a wedding. I was worried about it and called Audi.. they assured me I would be ok. Everything went great and when I got back I had a few days of meetings before I could get it into the dealer. So, yes, it was my bad but I was super busy and it didn't harm the car at all.
-What the potential buyer isn't mentioning here is how bad he wants to get a car. He was willing to come last weekend but I was busy.. he said he could come next weekend but didn't want to wait until then. I told him that I can take a day off and drive to him if he wants because I enjoy traveling and road trips. He was happy at first but then felt as if I had ulterior motives like I may be shady or something.
I've happily stated multiple times that I'm down to take it to a dealership for a PPI or wherever he'd like and, in the end, the only one losing out on the deal is me if I drive all the way to him if I knew there was something wrong that Audi will find... right?
I was asking $47k for the car.. our initial conversation had him offering $45k. I told him it was too low.. then after thinking about it, I decided that if he could come that weekend, I would do it for $45k (which is less than I owe on the car btw).
On Friday, he asked me to go to $44k and I stated I wouldn't be doing that.. he said ok, $45k is good.
Today, he calls and says that based on websites like Edmunds etc, he can only give me $44k. I told him that if he could get a car with all the options he wanted (like mine), for $44k, that he would've done it already. As we all know, market value changes daily. When pricing my car, I took the temperature of the REAL market by researching what was out there and pricing mine accordingly.
You've all been on both sides of this I'm sure. I'm just trying to walk away from this car so I can start saving that money. $45k is a good price in Southern California for a manual (afig367, manuals are so hard to find, they often sell for more in the private market) with my options in this condition.
I'm an honest man just trying to make a deal happen. 400 miles seems like nothing to me in order to help both of us out. If that makes me shady or a bad guy then that makes me bummed about what has happened in this community.
