I thought it was a good idea. You may feel differently. It's a matter of personal opinion. I will probably bequeath my Avant.

Don't both those methods do the opposite of each other. Jet Hot moves heat down the system to the exhaust end while the wrap traps it in place?

Wrap also traps water and can lead to corrosion. If I was doing something this invasive Id spend the extra cash and get them coated.

They both accomplish the same thing by providing a thermal barrier to keep heat energy where it belongs, in the exhaust system by preventing it from escaping into the engine bay.
Corrosion will not be a problem when wrapped around decent stainless of 304 or better, especially if it has been Jet-hot/ceramic coated beforehand.

Indeed. Not only that, but header wrap should be sealed once wrapped and finished. Mild steel will rust like crazy when wrapped, while stainless will last and last.

Hey Squid! Hope all is well.

Was thinking of you the other day - helped a buddy install an LSD in his B7. It was stuffed in a B6 housing and looked just like the ones you made.

Thanks RX Heven - (I do still think I'm kinda right. One moves heat (thermophobic) the other shields but traps)

Long time no talk, buddy. I will give you a call this evening because we need to catch up.

I have said it before and I have said it many, many times - tires are the best mod for any car, but the next best mod is always an LSD, if your car didn't come with one. It was true on FWD, it was true on RWD, and now I find it's still true on AWD. Not sure I'd want one in the front of the AWD car, but it definitely needed one in the back.

Was this a B7 RS4? I thought the B7 S4 6MT would be perfect interchange with the B6 S4 6MT, and the 6AT's would be the same as each other as well but not to the 6MT. I never had a B7 to test on, unfortunately. As far as I know, the B7 had the same gearing, so the diff itself should have been dimensionally the same. No telling with OEMs though. Each day is another opportunity to save a buck on design, suppliers, shipping, and assembly, or just make our lives more confusing.

It was an RS4 - a lovely white one.

Totally agree on the tire comment - they make all the other systems shine (or expose weaknesses)

For sure dude, it has been a while - hit me up when you get a chance.

    Nice!

I highly recommend getting the heaters ceramic coated and/or wrapped with header wrap.

My local shop 129Euro in Maryville, TN will be installing the headers as well as Fast Intentions exhaust, timing chain service, PCV, and hopefully a JHM tune. I have header wrap.

wow, you're getting a whole lot done at once. Especially if you get the tune at the same time then it will feel like a whole new car. I guess you'll be buying the cable and having them do the tune DIY? If there was a shop around here that could flash me the JHM tune then I would probably go ahead and get it. Whenever it all your work gets finished I'd love to come up there and get a ride sometime this summer, or maybe check it out at SoWo.

They already have a cable. They currently do APR tunes. They are trying to get hooked up with JHM now. Hopefully Jake can hook us up!!

....seriously we need a JHM dealer over in this area. I'm really surprised they haven't gotten with anyone in the ATL area. I was wondering if APR would do the flash at SoWo, but I'm sure that'll get a no if I ask.

I think I might call that 129Euro and see what they'd charge me to do a flash if I buy the tune from JHM. Hopefully it would be less than if I bought the cable myself.

I agree...the closest place for me now is Lexington KY. But like I said, the boys at 129Euro are trying to get hooked up with JHM. The APR and JHM tune use the same server, so why not??

talk to member "10MPG" he is basically full-on JHM setup and has/had their SC and headers. Him being in the Bay Area of CA I'm guessing he has to go through the same emissions as the rest of CA. I'm pretty sure he just used the race cats to pass the test.
