    Flashing CEL

Before it comes up, yes, I have researched. Everyone is saying bad coil pack(s), but all those threads address the AEB motor only. The ATW isn't discussed in the same detail. So I'm just trying to figure out if it could POSSIBLY be something else (like the ICM on the AEB) or if I should pretty well limit myself to the coils. Also is there a way to keep these from going out, just replaced the same one about a month and a half ago. Thanks in advance.

Other than doing a coil upgrade, such as the 2.0 upgrade, there isn't really a way to keep them going out.

Have you scanned it to make sure it's the coil pack? May also be a bad spark plug.

You need to learn the warnings on your cluster. Flashing CEL is a misfire. When it becomes harsh enough, it then becomes a solid CEL with a DTC (diagnostic troubleshooting code) associated with it. Anyways, flashing CEL is a misfire warning from your cluster just like a flashing brake light (one for the e brake) means you are low on brake fluid. Learn warning symbols on your cluster. They can and will be very helpful.

Also make sure your valve cover gasket isn't leaking oil down into the plug area.

Seerlah, is there something that breaks down all the warnings, like a pdf?

Your owners manual should have most, if not all. Then there is the Haynes and Bentley manuals.

For what it's worth, you may want to contact a dealer and ask about recalls for your car. I have an 01 1.8t which had a bad ICM, and it was replaced by the dealer due to recall.

No point in spending money if its a free fix.

Sounds like coilpaks. But out of curiosity do you still have the stock air box?
