lulz, I'm a web developer not an app developer.
If you know any that are good and experienced and looking for work, send them my way though. I have some high profile (but easy) app dev projects that pay really well. lol

You need to know more than just java/JS to develop apps.

Yeah java is a good start and a really useful language in almost all forms of development. Realistically you would be looking at 1-2 years minimum of learning before you could create something truly valuable unless you're just very lucky or a genius. I'd recommend that you take a couple online classes to get the basics and then you can branch out on your own from there.

Good luck, brother. You should really do a friends and family round first. Any developer working on equity is going to need to see a clear path to end and be damn confident in your fundraising abilities. Just remember, this person is going to do 90% of the work and it's all on the arm. And by the way, developers aren't exactly hungry...they always get paid and they are in-demand. It's too easy for them to find a real job that pays cash. Worse yet, you're in Cali. SV is sucking up all the talent.

Actually, I'll post this for all, because it comes from an actual developer and is really great advice:

"Ideas" -- or more often what "idea people" are actually peddling are just "problem statement + let's build an app" -- are a dime a dozen. A technical person probably walks around all day seeing problems that could be attacked with technology.

The problem the non-tech founder is pitching is just the setting, what I really want to hear is:
Why are you the right person to tackle this problem with?
How can I be sure that if I build a kick-ass solution, you're going to be able to turn it into money?
Do you have any special insight into this industry that anyone else off the street wouldn't have?
Do you have any special position or connections in this industry?
Do you have _anything_ that can be leveraged that makes you the right person to own half this thing I'm going to build for free?

If your answer to those last three questions is no, then I have no reason to share equity with you based on you just having an idea.

This isn't necessarily true. Most developers enjoy what they do, but the "work" part comes more with the planning, reporting, and dealing with the client facets of the trade. This won't factor in on a side project. If they are into a personal idea and know what needs to be done, I could see plenty of devs working for 'free' in their spare time. It becomes a hobby and an opportunity to make some bucks. I know of a few friends that do this, and have a lot of coworkers who are doing side IT projects just because they love it and want to advance software and be a part of it.

Exerience: Work in IT and many friends from college do as well... I did have some knowledge and experience working in Android SDK and Rhomobile, but not enough to really help out or take on developing an entire app. And I've since transitioned from database dev to Test Engineer. But good luck! Shouldn't be too difficult to find what you need.

The financial backing wont be an issue once I have a good mockup of the app. I think that's were I need the most help today. That and a clear model of how it should be monetized.

meh, I got him a pretty good quote to build the app from an Indian dev team. iOS and Android. The only problem is he doesn't want ads in the app so we need to find a way to make it profitable without ads.. Honestly I don't know how to make money from the idea without ads or a 1 dollar download charge. :/

It's kind of a cool idea though, more of a novelty app.

I dubbed it MY convention since my work will be the main keynote/presentation for 2 of the 3 keynote days. ;)

That's the idea. We already discussed that 10k is a minimum necessary startup investment but we need a way to profit or else it's just a waste of time and money. :/

There's 1 keynote but i forget the word for the main presentation for every day following the keynote so i'll call them keynotes also. The keynote will be centered around unified look and feel across all software products and then it will go into a centralized dashboard for all products. In a nut shell we're turning 15 products into a single product suite that will manage sales process from start to finish. I just do teh designs and codez. I don't sell it and I try to ignore the sales pitch for it.

I keep discounting builds for companies/people so that I can add into the contract that I own the software. lol, my product list is growing rapidly. If there's investors or buyers ready to throw cash at something then my team is ready to build anything.
