I recently purchased a 2007 a4 avant 2.0t manual. I want to lower the car and I also want to add more power. What is the most cost effective way to add decent power? I was thinking about an upgraded turbo but the couple I've seen are in the thousands of dollars. I know a chip is a fairly cost effective mod but how much performance gain am I looking at with something like that? Most any work I can do on it myself so installation price isn't a problem. Let me know what you guys think

Search around the "B7 Dyno" thread for some numbers from APR and some other companies. APR, Revo, Unitronic, JHM (soon), etc... are the tunes provided for us for the 2.0T application. Just search around for the tunes and you'll be able to see what performance gains are available at different stages.

Performance gain with a chip is very noticeable. If you have an APR dealer nearby you can try out their tune for free for 6 hours of driving time. A test pipe or high flow cat will help performance too.

Best way to do it is: Chip it and add a divertor value(used $50), install a straight pipe you get from : CL, Ebay or a part out here on AZ or other Audi forum (Internet). To add additional power --get used injectors and a used turbo (kO4) from the same sources as the pipe. I'd say with enough diligence you could add the tune for $450 oe a bit less on sale and $100 for a pipe---so $600 total for that----and you could get a used turbo for $400-500, injectors like $250. So the whole mess for less than $1500 if you were on it and industrious.
It'll take some work, but all that is easily doable to turn that car into a real racer.
The biggest cost, however, will come later as your car, pushed beyond what the engineers envisioned, starts to crap out, parts failing here and there. Then your "budget build" will cease to be cheap and will cost you real $$ and real time. Hopefully your time isnt worth much money.
