Where to go for this window trim project

I hate my chrome window trim on my S5. I want to make it black.

I was originally going to ask which paint shop would you recommend, but I called one and they said even with all the chrome etching and prepping, it will come off in 6 months to a year. Is this true?

If not, could you recommend someone in OC to do the work?

OEM replacement is $1300. Way too much.

The other option is to vinyl wrap the trim. Wont last forever, but should be cheap? Could you recommend someone in OC to do this ?

I called Extreme Autowerks and they said they stopped doing it because it always starts lifting after a little bit and customers are so unhappy. So they dont do it anymore.

    Thoughts?

plasitidip it yourself...it's easy and will last as long as you don't scratch it.

i was going to plasti dip, but so many people on this board posted against it and recommended vinyl. I am all confused now as to what to do...

yeah the plasti-dip stuff sucks on the trim pieces and starts to look like crap, I have a guy that does it here in OC and he did my RS4 Avant trim matte black for me, I will post up a pic of it later on tonight.

    Who is OC did it?

So I take it you are recommending against it?

Seems like there is no good solution for this... Just like the carbon fiber shift paddle extenders that are less than $300 or the pre face lift fog light grill covers that will better match a RS5 Grill installed on an S5. I hate my growing list of things I can not do.

I had mine done by them 3 years ago - all window trim, roof, and rails. They're in perfect condition.

If done right, it will last.

Remember that this stuff was design to dip your tools in to give them rubberized handles. If it peels, it was too thin to begin with. The guys that do it wrong are used to spraying paint and put it on too thin and they don't peel the masking at the right time (while really wet)
