    2.7t swap!!!!!!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi Guys,

Haven't been on here in awhile. I see that alot of 2.7t swaps have been done with the b6. I saw a nice write up on things needed to be changed. I was wondering if any write ups or kits made for the B7?

    Thanks!!!

That's because the 2.7 is too old a motor to legally swap into a b7.

I know a few states have that law. Luckily, the 2.7 ECU does not store any VIN number or model year information.

What's because the 2.7 is too old?

The 2JZ is literally 25 years old and other than displacement (and VVTi on later years) is identical to the 1JZ which is 30+ years old.

Thanks for proving my point. It's federally illegal (states have nothing to do with it) to put an older motor into a newer chassis. That doesn't mean people don't do it, but it's a risk you need to be aware of. If you have to go through a referee process, or have a sharp emissions guy inspecting the car, you're going to be screwed.

one of the few reasons why i dont want inspections in our area.

nobody around here could give less of a fuck what engine is in the car as long as they can hook up an OBDII reader to the ecu and read that the emissions systems are setting readiness.

I've been giving thought to this swap though. It'd be fun

Fair enough on it being a risk, but I don't think that law is really enforced. Second off, this looks completely OEM, I doubt any emissions guy would notice. Plus, most states don't even have visual inspection.

Maybe I've just been unlucky, as every state I've ever lived in has a visual inspection. They're also pretty sharp in noticing something amiss. Personally I wouldn't want to go to all the expense and time to do a swap that I *knew* was illegal on the hopes I'd be able to continually slide it by a smog guy. The repercussions of not being able to register and drive the car are just too high.

I've done a number of motor swaps, all legally and believe me, the smog guys instantly noticed that the motor wasn't the "normal" one and instantly went into predator mode making sure I had everything done properly.

Did you know oral sex is illegal in Michigan? I wonder how many people that stops ;-)

I have looked into dropping an old diesel into a newer car and seeing what needs to be done to get it registered though. In an emission free state, you need to pay a fee, and have a sheriff come out and inspect it for leaks and junk. This doesnt make a ton of sense because I doubt most sheriffs know what they are looking for.

in VA its illegal to have sex with your socks on. or with the lights on. true story!

There's even a town in southern VA, can't remember which, in which anyone darker than tan caucasian can't vote. not sure which one haha, and they don't uphold the law, but it has not been repealed afaik

TT-RS engine is transverse... would be a royal pain in the ass to get that to not only A) fit in our engine bay once turned longitudinally, but B) mate up with all the components (engine mounts, transmission, etc) that our cars have.

You'd have an easier time swapping in an I-5 from a URS4 than try to get that TT-R5 I-5 to work.

I almost bought a Passat sedan a few months back with the 2.8 motor and 4motion. it was in great shape but had a bit of engine noise. ended up being water pump. guy fixed it and after I told him he is an idiot for selling this car for what he was he kept it!!! my plan was 2.7T with the spare RS6 turbos I have. damn what a nice ride that would have been. but the whole needing to swap to 6 speed woulda likely been fun.

anyone ever thought of trying to get the older S6 straight 5 under the hood? a guy locally to me had this very nice S6 nicely tuned turbo charged car. the idiot sold it for way less then its value and bought a newer A8L and now complains hourly that he let it go cuz hes had nothing but problems with the A8. just a thought though if theres a straight 5 maybe going with the older style engine might be less issues. I mean less systems less electronics less issues. not sure just thinking out loud. here in Canada the law I believe is that the car must have the components that were on the car from year of production. so if I were to 2.7T my A4 I would require all the crap that emissions had required in 2007. now that doesn't mean that I have all the emissions stuff on the car now but. what they don't know wont hurt!!

LOL well you can stay right there!! ill just continue not giving to shits and rely on good tuners!!!! lol I have both cars going in may for emissions, the A4 will just need a slight tweek this weekend, the allroad im awaiting a file from another member. I would enjoy not having to give any Fu*ks but here in we just have to have the compute clear all readiness faults. an exhaust shop did my 3" downpipe not to long ago. the owner goes "you sure did a good job on this car, and you found a v-banded pipe that has the cat inside? you musta got that outta the USA?" my response was hysterical laughter followed by me handing him money for his work. he looked dumbfound!! ill be taking the car back to their shop for e test!!!
