    Steering wheel airbag harness help?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I ran into an unfortunate case of mismatched harnesses. Wanted to swap a 4 spoke B7 for a 3-spoke B8, checked to make sure the bag had the nubbins to match the s-line wheel, and only realized that I had messed up as I was trying to fit a yellow/green (new) into a yellow/purple (old) plug.

    Old.

    New.

I've considered disassembling the units to swap covers, anyone have other suggestions? Could I simply pull the harnesses out and plug them into the other? I fully accept all flaming if I missed a thread that covered this. Thanks!

Pull the two orange and red plugs located on the back airbag, and simply swap over the harness from your 4 spoke.

This is so weird when I did my B8 S4 wheel swap, I had a yellow and purple connector on my b8 harness, I remembering you telling me you had that problem too AK

Looked at that, the newer unit had a little different mount on the orange(?) one, I had a hard time getting them out of the bag, and at the end I justified not wanting to mess with the harness as much as possible. Turns out doing the cover swap is extremely easy, so I went with that. Guess I can /thread my own thread.

Very weird indeed. It must be the 4 spoke airbag! I cant think of anything else.

Yeah its a bit taller on the orange one but it fits perfectly. So you just swapped the front cover over to the other airbag?

Yep! Unscrewed the 3 giant Torx heads, on the previously 4-spoke bag I had to pry up some metal tabs to free the cover tabs, but beside that it was pretty much pull out, swap, push back in.

The easiest way is the swap the old plug, with the new one. I did the same with a 3 Spoke steering wheel of an Audi Q5 on my Audi A4 '06. The wiring harnes had also a different plug, I just swapt them. See my threat:

Thank God for Google Translate thanks for the thread! Hopefully whoever buys my new-available steering wheel can use that to their advantage...

I'm 99% sure it wouldn't. I ended up using the same airbag for this particular project, but when I did it on my A3, I did a whole new bag and nothing ever came up.
