I do understand this whole bossy thing. I've seen guys in the office give smart women things that are more "housekeeping" and less "strategy". I've also seen women be afraid to speak their minds in meetings. I get it, it sucks because "Ban Bossy" isn't realistic but honestly it raises awareness.

to the majority of women who are bosses, letting someone call you bossy is not a put down. most of them don't care and think this campaign is a waste of time

instead of focusing on terms and letting themselves be defined, they're making decisions and writing their own definitions

it's more anti-bullying and that never works in the long run...not in the real world at least

My wife's company is dominated by women and she tells me horror stories about working with them. They form cliques, have enemies, don't work well together, one or two of them are crying about something on a daily basis, and the women bosses don't seek to cooperate with nor mentor the rising stars because they see them as competition. She's even told me stories about flat out sabotage where women have gone in and changed people's work to make them look bad. Let's not forget about the ones who are having sex with the personal trainers in the company gym.

When a male manager/supervisor asserts himself and his presence over his workers, he's a bully.

When a female manager/supervisor assets herself and her presence over her worker, she's bossy.

When a male questions his female supervisors request and makes suggestions to improve on it, he's a dick.

When a female questions her male supervisors request and makes a suggestion to make it efficient, she's a bitch.

When a female uses her sexuality to get things her way, it's ok.

When a male uses his masculinity and aggressiveness to get things his way, he gets tacked with a sexual harassment suit!

I don't understand why we are now focusing on this? The world has gone too PC with all this feelings shit.

I don't buy into any of this lean in crap. Just be a good, empathetic leader that follows the company's strategy and culture. Not too complicated, and gender is only an issue when we make it an issue.

The only two bosses I haven't liked were women. One would be the friendliest person on earth if she wanted something from you but otherwise would be cold and bitchy. The other one was a hypocritical, vindictive, commission stealing cvnt.

I was just pointing out the apparent contradiction that to ban bossy (supposedly to empower women) would also mean to ban women bosses, thus disempowering women.

Hands down, one of the dumbest concepts ive seen in a while. Having worked for a female boss for years, i found her inability to seperate her rollercoaster of emotions from the job and let her moods get way too involved in her day to day business. Which falls right in line with the concepts VH was talking about in that article. To try and ban the word bossy is nothing short of moronic and anyone who stands behind this should get beheaded. Beyonce should be at the top of that list...

I totally disagree. Bossy is not a gender specific term. And usually if a guy is real bossy, we just call him a dick (which actually is). Maybe if these "bossy" women knew how to properly interact with people it wouldnt be an issues. Just because you suck at leading doesnt mean we need to ban words so your pathetic little overly emotional feelings dont get hurt.

I've never called a woman bossy, to her face or behind her back.

I have called them much less pc names that bossy replaces.

Dems fightin' words der! Really, though. Not constitutionally protected free speech. As such, I would draw the line as well, especially when used to invoke certain emotions in people.

However, the simple utterance of the "n" word or the "f" word I don't think should offend most people. Its the application of its use where we get into offensive territory, but I'm sure we are on the same page here.

I just hate it when people get offended by mundane things and think they have a right not to see or hear offensive material. For the most part, those people are being overly sensitive and need to grow some thicker skin.

there's nothing magical about these words other than the limited powers we give them.

depending on the company, these words are as harmless as a kitten or as deadly as a tiger.

A word shouldn't have that kind of ambiguity.

We must be on the side of the person's right to say all words over the person's wish not to hear them. It's the mindless battle between them that gives words their power.
