45k Service on my 2012 S4

My 2012 S4 6MT (non sport diff) just crested the 42k mile mark, and since the previous owner did the 15k service at 12k (I'm not sure why) and I bought the car with 20700 miles on it, my service visits have been performed at ~22k and ~32k miles. [I'm only offering this background to disarm anyone from asking "Why are you doing your 45k service early at 42k???"]

Anyway - I have AudiCare so this is my last pre-paid service, and since I am at 42k miles and a pace of ~13k miles per year, this is also probably my last dealer visit with factory warranty remaining. On top of the 42k service, I have a short list of issues for them to address under warranty:

* B&O center dash speaker and front passenger lower door speaker rattling/buzzing
* Front driver door carbon atlas inlay rattling/ticking (usually in cold temperatures)
* 'Quattro' emblem in dashboard carbon inlay rattling
* Small blue spots forming in rear bumper clearcoat or paint (can't tell which)

Are there any other open TSBs or common issues with the 2012 6MT cars that I should ask them to address (even pre-emptively) while still under warranty during this visit?

The only thing you need to do in that service is oil change, brake fluid and filter. I never understood these dealer maintenance plans. They allegedly do these 140 point checks but I think it's BS because I always get the car back with the wrong tire pressure.

^ Do they tell you the tech's pressure gauge must be broken? That's what I heard after leaving dealership with 3 under-inflated tires last visit (when the car was there 4+ days).

Yeah the 35k is the big one. Im ~ 21k miles in mine right now.

Big? Go buy the OEM parts and do it yourself in < 1hr! What does the dealer charge for this service?

Just a heads up, my B&O had the rattling in the speaker. I took it in for a service and when they asked if there was anything else I mentioned the rattling... When I came to pick the car up they said the speaker casing was cracked and rattling and "could not find any outside influence to crack this speaker casing, so fixed under warranty"
So most likely that's what your rattling in the speaker is, which I wouldn't be worried.

Now if I can diagnose the damn rattling in my center console when i take off in first.

I hear rattling too but only sometimes. Its so frustrating I cant ever replicate it.

I just did this last week- I mentioned the car was drinking oil quick, I've had to add a quart or two between regularly scheduled oil changes- they ran some diagnostics and ended up replacing my PCV valve- there was a TSB for it a while back.

I also mentioned the thermostat, water pump issue to them as well but they can't technically perform the TSB's or replace parts until the equipment actually fails. Which sucks because from what I understand its only a matter of time before the thermostat/ water pump fail on this car and when it does it will leave me stranded on the side of the road with the car no longer under warranty.

B&O door speakers TSB = TSB #2022773/4. They don't apply it automatically - you need to make a point about vibration. There are a couple of threads calling out bad B&O amps as another potential reason for speaker rattling, but I don't think there is a TSB for that - just warranty repair if that's the case.

my car is due for the 45k service and im at around 42k. nothing wrong with doing it early actually. even the dealers perform them early.

I had mine done early, but it was because of time not due to mileage.

where do you find this info? i've googled and can't anything on it. my '13 every once in a while has a kind of distortion coming out of what i think is the subwoofer, but it's impossible to reproduce, it's so random. So i'm curious to read this TSB.

I read somewhere on AZ about it (but didn't have bulletin number) and complained to my dealer who performed it. I got the number off my service invoice: Bulletin 2022773/4. They "removed door trim and installed sound absorbing matts and felt tape in specific areas per bulletin." They also replaced interior door handles and window regulators in both front doors.

They had to do it twice because they left some of the tape exposed on my driver door, which I didn't notice until later. I had them resolve in next service visit. They said the tape "slipped" which I don't understand or care about since it is now fixed properly.

I think it only pertains to front door speakers, not subwoofer. There is a thread in the Q5 section where someone determined they have a bad B&O amp. See post 7:

Really, DSG owners are the ones that should be conscious of this the most. 35k is the fluid change on them and then after that at increments. For 6MT people, normal maintenance and you could change the fluid in the trans if you like and it's suggested you do it, especially if you're pretty hard on the trans from racing, etc. But then again... some on here race and change oil once a year.

For TSBs the best source I found was directly from Audi - for $30 you can get a one-day subscription to erwin and it will show you all active TSB's specific to your VIN. There are a lot since many of the TSB's are pretty generic.

erwin also gives you access to the service manual which can be downloaded to PDF, so that tips the cost/benefit slightly.
