    crankcase breather hose missing 1.8t

Ok so i have a 2001 a4 1.8t with 197xxx miles on it. And while i was under the hood replacing the plugs and coils i noticed a big hole below the dip stick. I think its the breather hose but im not sure. I have no idea how long it has been off. How significant is it to have been missing like it was. Also how do i go about putting a new one back on?

    Second that!

    OEM one =

Although I would keep shop vac ready for when you disconnect the oil filter adaptor part. It's a plastic covered metal sleeve and there's a 95% chance that it will turn to confetti before you get it out and fall into the OFA. If you get a good seal with the vac on the opening, you will be able to suck all that crap out of there.

I emulate this. Let this be a lesson for you: A while back I decided oh, it will be a cool idea to just dump it to the ground to reduce some clutter. Turns out that ended up causing excessive crankcase pressure so I decided to return back to stock pcv system. Yea.. I was able to piece together the oem setup (stupidly threw away all my old parts) including the hard pipe off eBay, the two valves and all associated piping for less than the oem pieces. I saved about $50 dollars or so but didn't recieve everything at once because I was price shopping, so that was a frustration. I would buy the 034 kit if I did it again. Part of me still wants to buy the 034 just because.

It's a great kit. Looks better than stock, makes the valve cover and coolant flange so much easier to do, and will never need replaceing. For the extra ~$50 over oem it was 100% worth it and more

Definitely replace it all, you won't notice an increases but your belly pan will no longer be covered with oil

are you sure there wasnt another issue? This would mean that everyone running a catch can is going to blow a headgasket.

I didn't say anything about blowing head gaskets. I was getting pressure coming out from my new oil cap. Replacing the PCV system has eliminated that issue.

    thats real weird.
increased crankcase pressure can lead to a blown hg it was just an exaggeration.
good that you fixed it though.

I suspect I have increased blow-by due to age and that the cold temperatures aren't helping. I have observed that i don't pull the strongest vacuum until the engine is fully warmed further suggesting rings. Either way I'm sourcing a short block to rebuild now

    Ryan, on the go.

Ah that makes sense. My breather is dumped for now (I barely drive the car so I don't care) eventually I'll do a proper catch can setup.
