question about tire widths for 20x10.5 wheels

Finally got round to buying my wheels - Niche Targa's 20x10.5 x 27offset. It's time to get some shoes for the...er...shoes.

Looking through tire manufacturer's technical details (Hankook, Vredestein, etc), most state that 275/30/20 should be fitted only to rims between 9.0 and 10.0 in wide.
I Know that many here run 275s on 10.5 in with a stretch but my questions are:

1. does this void the warranty on the tires if something goes wrong?
2. Can all 275s be stretched onto 10.5 or only certain makes depending of their sidewall stiffness ?

Yes certain brands stretch better than others, but 275 on a 10.5 isn't even stretched in my book and any tire you choose should accommodate.

I have the exact same wheels with the exact same offset. 275 is barely a stretch, see below. Lowered to 25.75" ground to fender on the front; helps me not rub. 275 will be fine.

Really? I thought for sure you might get some push back if something were to happen. Either way, my shop would cover me in regard to disclosing wheel info.

Agreed. The PSS "stretch" especially well.

Mops, do you get chips behind your front wheels with your stance being wider than stock? Did you put some clear bra down under your doors to protect the paint?

I do have clear bra behind all four tires. Will post a pic here is just a sec. Either way, the stone guards would catch most, but I wanted extra protection.

That's good to see/know. I'm looking at getting the Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta - heard they're really grippy - and I'm gonna be lowered on H&R OE springs (max 1" drop).

Speaking of tires - can anyone (gurus?) say which tires run 'wider' for the same size (275-30-20). I'm considering Vredestein but from what I've read they run on the narrower side so that may be a deal breaker.

Any ideas?

I really cannot say. I know PSS run wide, V12's run more narrow, and Potenza RE960/Nero M+S are middle of the road. I suggest you look up the specs of the tires you are intested in. Sites such as TireRack allow you to compare, and they list all specs.

Thanks Guru. PSS is on the list but wanted other choices of wide tires. The problem is Tire rack etc don't show all tires in that size - eg. they don't have Toyo or Vredestein etc so unfortunately no specs on those tires. Back to the 'ol internet for info.

You can try calling tirerack too. They have a lot of the information on tire specs available that isn't listed on their site. Give them a call and they should be able to provide you with additional information.
