    Sunroof Problem

    Hi Everyone!

Sorry if this is a re-post; I searched around the forum and couldn't find an answer to my problem.

When I was driving with the roof open the other day, I went to close the sunroof, the roof was stuck in a half open position. After manually closing the roof, I was able to open and close the roof under power, but it was opening/closing to the wrong position (i.e. fully closed would be half open). After thinking that manually closing the roof may have lead to the problem, I placed the sunroof switch in the fully closed position and manually closed the roof once again. At this point, the roof began only opening by holding the switch in the fully open position, and will closing by holding the switch in the full tilt position. Again, no success.. After thinking this may have been a problem with the sunroof switch itself, I changed that which seems to have had no effect at all. I tried greasing the sunroof rails thinking this may have been a problem with track resistance, and still no luck

Any advice in this would be greatly appreciated. My next thoughts were to change the sunroof motor but I'm not sure how much that would help.

Sounds like the potentiometer(or something like that) needs to be replaced. Not an unheard of problem.

Yes, that was the part I tried changing first, ( http://www.ecstuning.com/Audi-B8_A4-...roof/ES452459/ ); even after that, the sunroof only opens by holding the switch past the full open position, and holding the tilt function to close.. So I'm not sure if I should try unhooking the battery for 15 minutes (as I've heard this may reset things) or if there is something that could be done with a vagcom.

The sunroof switch may be like the door window switch i.e. may need to be calibrated. Below I have copied from the service manual the procedure to "Adapt" the sunroof when the electric motor is replaced.

    1.10 Adaption for motor

After a motor has been removed and re-installed or renewed, the motor must be adapted so that the sliding/tilting sunroof can op‐ erate properly.
    Sunroof motor
    – Switch on ignition and, if open, close doors and sunroof.
    – Pull operating switch for sliding/tilting sunroof and hold in this position for 10 seconds.
    – The sunroof panel will move to the tilted position, then it will run to the fully open position; subsequently it will return to the front tilted position and finally move back to the closed posi‐ tion.
♦ During the entire adaption process the operating switch for the sliding/tilting sunroof must be kept pulled.
♦ The adaption has now been completed.
