    Dropping Oil Pan on 3.0

Anyone else do this? I figure with the issues with sludge on the 1.8, it would be worth it to drop it on the 3.0 just to clean it out. I mean, its easy to get to and the gasket is cheap. I was just wondering if anyone else has ever done it. Another reason I want to do this is to put back in the lower three transmission bolts that I didnt put back in on the reassembly of my clutch, since I had tons of people telling me that it wasnt too necessary.

Slick, I know you were talking about doing it, but I dont think you did it yet, since you said it was too cold to work on the avant.

Yep, done it. Straightforward job and worth it too. Mine had a robust layer of gunk in the pan, likely due to a poorly functioning PCV system.

great. This is exactly what I wanted to hear. I figure for the cost of the $13 gasket, i'll have piece of mind knowing that my pan doesnt contain a bunch of sludge.

this video terrifies me. I'd rather get that out as soon as possible.

I haven't done mine yet, but it's on my to-do list for the next oil change. Probably early summer since I just changed the oil recently.

Is there a gasket for the oil pan? I thought it was just black RTV?

I bet my oil pan will look similar to the one in the video. Thanks for nothing, previous owner!

Yup. After some quick research I found out its only RTV. I dont think mine will be that bad, especially considering how clean the top end of my engine is, but you never know.

My plan is to start at the top, and scrape/spray all the sludge off of the head, letting it all drain down into the pan. Then I'll drain the oil and drop the pan and clean that out. Hopefully the screen on the oil pump is not in bad shape. I'm not looking forward to purchasing a new oil pump.
