Understanding differences in B7 production year questions.

If I could go back, I may of preferred to have gone with the wide band maf-less B5 being a newer year, opposed to the narrow band maf based older year. In addition, I would of gained the 06A motor over the 058, a bonus. Like wise, I have a couple questions concerning the B7. I'm not concerned with the most basic of issues like bad dv's or leaking valve covers. My thread is concerning over all design improvements (aka, stay above '07 etc due to due issues x, y, and z being sorted out). I'm not at all worried about the simplest of bolt on improvements I can do myself with most likely would happen anyways.

I believe there is change in 2007/08 to the HPFP set up, which was an over all improvement in design yes/no?

I think the early 2005.5 cars got the Wossner type pistons.

2008 - doesn't use a banjo bolt on the high pressure fuel pump (2008 has revised cam follower design, but some has said it suffers the same problem)
    2008 - S-line visual package came standard
2006 - 3 spoke sport steering wheel standard
    2006 - Color Screen standard?

2007 didnt use banjo bolt either i believe. Makes for a much easier HPFP removal. 2008 cam/follower/HPFP isnt covered by Audi's extended warranty

At least my MY07 with a 10/06 build date, did NOT use a banjo bolt and had the updated Rev B cam.

Same here! no banjo bolt. How did you know you had a revised cam?

Pull your valve cover. It's printed on the cam.

Nice! I thought maybe there was a way without pulling the cover. Maybe your car had the cam replaced??

Not according to the service records I have. I bought my car w/ 42k on it and the only warranty work it had had done was the PCV. I swapped out the follower and changed the oil, just for good measures, the day after I picked it up.

Expenses in F1 have gone down since the 1960s because teams don't need an extra pit crew to help the driver carry around his balls when he is not in the car.

Are the 2005.5 pistons better or worst than later models pistons? I never knew they had different pistons until this thread.

None of our pistons are bad, it's the rods that are the point of failure.

Add to this the difference between US and Canadian cars, and it makes even more confusing.

IE, mines a 2008 2.0T 6spd, that came with factory memory seats, but apparantly in the US that only came on the 3.2L

Also, mine is an actual S-line, Not just the s-line appearance package that came standard on 2008 US versions

No that's not true. At least not every year. Memory seats were definitely an option on the 2.0T. There are also 2008's in the US that are real S-Lines as well.

I think he wants to say that it came with memory seat in 2008, not as an option. Mine is a 2008 "SE" or whatever it was called, complete S-Line appearance package (yeah, it's not a "true" S-Line but looks just like one... and I'm lowered, so get over it, it's a f-ing S-Line ), bi-xenons, heated seats, memory seat, rain detector, auto-dimming mirrors, and I think that's it. These were not options but were standard in 2008, in Canada at least I think.

What does that change in actually removing the HPFP? Surely you have to disconnect the hardline somehow? Looking to do the cam follower for the first time (on my own) on my '07 sometime soon, all the DIYs involve removing the banjo bolt, so I'm not sure what I'm looking at...

Instead of using the banjo bolt setup, its just a 17mm (IIRC) large nut that screws the two hardlines together. You just have to unscrew it and the two hardlines will separate. I suggest a "shortie" 17mm wrench. You'll need something very small to get in there to unscrew it. You can leave the flexible hose fuel line on the pump and remove it after the hardlines and the 3 torx bolts are removed

Be happy you dont have the banjo bolt! lol

Exactly what SwiftA4 said. Get a cheap 17mm wrench and cut it in half (or 5" or so on box end). It makes the job so much easier.
