Thumbs down 2014 a4 power steering failure

Started the car this morning and immediately was advised "do not drive" along with Power Streering warning light on the dash. Car has approx. 6800 miles. Had called the dealership for service recently and mentioned to the advisor that two issues i have noted with this particular Steering were that a) the steering tries to correct itself sometimes based on the algorithm(so it seems) and b) has a delay when I am trying to correct it. I understand this has occured in other places as well and it is not limited to VW group Audi as I believe it extends to their Porsche line as well. When i took the car in dealer mentioned that the first software update was done to the car and it is probably the second one that needs to be updated. I do not very comfortable with this answer. No "TSB" issued as of yet, is what i was told. Reason i am not very comfortable with this is that I would hate to put my family with two very young ones in the car and have this happen exactly when it should not...

Any thoughts or advice from anyone on this issue?

I will keep you posted as this moves along

they replaced my steering rack when I got the error message, but given that you have 2014, you should already have the newer steering rack as well as the 48K8 software already from factory.

Audi should never have switched from hydraulic.

I wouldn't have bought the car if it were hydraulic steering, I've had 0 issues so far my 08 R32 was electric and never an issue, I don't want the extra pump lines and reservoir. Just more stuff to break

    Update
Dealer did order a new steering rack. I had a 13 A4 and 11 S4(nto certain if it had one) but not new to electric streering. Understand the weight and newer technology but in some cases Hydraulic systems may be a better choice, i think. There really is no backup system so if it fails while parked, that is one thing, but God forbid it fails while driving as has happened with others, you are asking for a very big disaster. I commend the SW to explain my concern to Audi and i commend Audi for stepping up to the plate. Software and items to follow. I am told that the new steering rack is really the new one so let's see.

Just so you know there is still a mechanical connection between the steering wheel and the rack, so even if it fails at speed you can still turn the wheels, it will be much more difficult like when a hydraulic system fails but your steering will not just disappear

I've now lost count of all the complaints I've read about electric steering in general.
