So my wife recently gave birth to our first kid and we plan on purchasing a new "family" vehicle in about a year. In the meantime, my S4 is hardly driven since I didn't want to put the car seat in it and, to top it off, I work from home. Needless to say, it sits in the garage and gets driven a couple days a week to go to the grocery store or get dinner, when I head out by myself. So I'm trying to get some feedback on how much I should set the private sale price since I plan to put it on the market in the next few months. Keep in mind that I'm in no hurry to sell it. As stated above, we're not going to get a vehicle for another year, we only need 1 car at this time, and we don't "need" the money.
Kelly Blue Book sets the private party sale value at $12.4k, which seems to be totally off after seeing other S4's on the market. Doing a quick nationwide search on Auto Trader, mine would have the lowest miles for a 2005 and there are only 2 other 2005 Imola's for sale with the mileage being 72k & 110k. My thoughts were that I could start off by asking $22k but maybe I'm dreaming.
All that being said, what do you all feel is a fair price to set my car?
I'd also like some suggestion on the transaction process if I were to sell to someone out of state, in which I would have the car transported. Thanks in advance for any input.
