Hey guys my motor is blown in my 2003 b6 1.8TQM 5 speed 110,000 miles. What is average price for a new motor? Or average price to sell the rolling chassis w/o motor. If this is in wrong section please let me know.

    Thanks!

I'd say a decent AMB engine is going to cost between $1200-$1800 depending on mileage, recorded maintenance, and warranty.

Agreed. Unless you managed to crack the block, then it would be cheaper to replace the parts. A refurbed head is still cheaper than a whole new motor which brand new you could expect to pay $2000+. Used $1200-$1800 (with any problems that come with it).

Agreed. You can pickup a used AMB head in the $300-$500 range, and have it decked for like $50-$75.

Running a larger turbo without proper tuning and or fueling....

    Example:(Not mine)

    2015 S3 with 210,000 miles with new 2019 Q5 motor. Still going!

Like a head gasket? Would it really be cheaper to swap motors for a blown head gasket? the motor doesn't sound very expensive, maybe I should do that instead of a new turbo.

That's your best course of action. I've decided when something breaks on my motor, I'm replacing the whole thing!

Meh, I tried the blown motor mod and it wasn't my thing. For roughly 2K I replaced just about everything in the engine and on it. It is now good up to around 500 crank hp, which it will not come within 20% of. If you need a short block, get a used one from a TT 225 which comes with forged internals. Replace rings and bearings, deck the head and call it done.

    Yeah...that's my old girl^^^

Here is what the real damage looked like....

    Ported block...

Started rebuilding (buffing with robitussin) but I ended up buying this with ~ 45-50k from an 05' for ~$2k with the turbo. CLEAN inside and out!

You get it running yet? That engine does look damn clean. There's gotta be a bunch of parts you're getting rid of from the old motor, no? You keeping the stock turbo on the new motor or what?

Yes it's running but I'm slow rolling it and doing things right. My ECU still has the crappy VAST tune and since I'm keeping the K03 for now, I need to get a new tune. I will most likely send my FT back to have it rebuilt to an F21. I also purchased a block and already had it cleaned, decked and honed and awaiting the word on the head (bent a couple valves). So yes, I DO have parts to get rid of like the intake manifold, larger TB, FMIC (maybe), block and head (maybe), etc. Once I sit down and get my thoughts together I'll do some sort of write up on her progress.
