    Hey,

I'm curious on what people do with their money, I know its none of my business but, Where do you put your money? How do you save your money? Investments, your good and your bad.

Just figured I could learn a thing or two from some established adults.

I got a fortune cookie that said "your best investment is in yourself", so naturally i invested everything into alcohol blow and hookers.

...Currently I let ING handle my retirement.

We use a combo of savings acct, IRA, and CDs. We also have some corporate bonds. We invested in 529, but that's not really "ours" part of the savings allotment though.

Put your money in a company sponsored retirement account and fund a Roth IRA with any extra money you have left over. Even modest amounts of money regularly invested in your 20s can put you way ahead as you get older.

I put 6% into a company-matched 401k, the rest goes into checking/savings with very little interest generated.

I have a lot of bills (good debt) but my disposable income allows me to do whatever (impulse buys, restaurants) and be comfortable. But I don't make enough to save any more or go crazy buying crap. But I'm a firm believer in enjoying life while you can and not being miserable pinching pennies.

When I have a kid I will start a college fund (20-30k FV over 18 years). Gerber life plan or something? Not sure yet

If I somehow start making more money I'll probably just hold onto it short term and save it to buy a better house.

If something bad happens, I can easily lean out my useless spending and cover bills. Also no credit card debt, thankfully.

When I'm 40 I'll probably revisit my retirement situation and start investing that differently. Roth IRA, low risk accounts. I just want to have a house paid-off before I'm 50

Not sure how to ask this without sounding ignorant but do these trust funds transfer to you in lump sum or do you have a monthly allotment distributed to you so you don't pull a Vince Young and eat it away?

real estate is not the investment it once was unless you're in a really really desirable location.

True. With rental properties around me for sale, there really isn't much of a profit... and the liability of damage or being vacant outweigh the benefits. But some get lucky!

I am shopping around to buy another piece of property to build on in the future. Taxes are low with no improvements on a lot, and once paid off it's an asset that can be used as collateral. And the $40-50k won't be absorbed in my next mortgage when I do build on it ;)

    Issue? send me an email

When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life.

    that is jsut not true
a rowhome in baltimore city (yes its not a desirable location at all) can be acquired for about 50-70k after total rehab (splitting it to two units) each rents out for ~1200

It's funny as even the people who are trying to be helpful won't help him at all as he's Canadian. Different investment vehicles.

To the OP, try to start out by maxing out your TFSA every year, any more put into an RRSP for future. A TFSA will give you tax-free shelter to grow your money in and it allows you to take back out without any tax implications.
