    Fogs get really hot??

Over the summer I put on some lamin-x yellow covers over my foglights that are in my rs4 front bumper and everyday I would start up my car and turn on my lights and fogs cause it looks better to me. Well after like 6 months now they started turning black so I went and touched them to see if it was just dirt building up from the shitty winter and I burnt myself on the fog.... Is it normal for the fogs to get so hot? I didnt think it was bad for them to run all the time? or could it just be the brand of bulb since I did go super cheap on them when I last replaced them.

What wattage bulbs did you put in there? They should not be getting hot enough to burn or melt anything.

A lot of what you are describing sounds like the same results this guy had from running higher wattage bulbs:

I melted the sh*t out of the lenses on another car by doing just this. 55w to 110w fog bulbs. the lenses discolored, then got toasty brown spots. after 3-4 weeks, it was obvious where they had distorted the lenses from heat. I pulled them, and the softer plastic that makes up the rear of the housings was "drooped" across the top top where the heat had softened the entire housing shell.

IMHO, don't do it. stick with the proper wattage, OR get a HID conversion, which generates LESS heat than a 55w bulb.

    hope it helps,
    Ryan

I have no clue what wattage bulbs I put in.. This was probably around may of last year and normally I do a good amount of researching before doing anything to my car so I'm pretty sure I put in the right bulbs! I'd try and look at them but its like 5 degrees outside and last time I tried I barely could get the bulb out with the bumper off for some reason.

someone said the Canadian S4's didnt have fog lights because transport Canada said they got too hot, IDK, maybe they were worried about heat soaking the intercoolers, lol

Pretty sure that transport Canada did front end crashes and the fogs pierced the intercoolers so no fogs for us, sucks cause a lot of the wiring is in there but not everything

You were also the guy running 70w HIDs in the lowbeams and having factory wiring issues though right?

    http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...s-Cutting-Out?

Also the OP is using halogen bulbs not HIDs, I would imagine a 100w halogen in the tiny fogs generates a good deal more heat than the 100w HIDs
