It's about the easiest thing. Simply yank the trim out around the shifter and remove the four 10mm nuts you see in there, undo the ignition interlock cable, a couple electrical connections... And whatever else is holding it in.
It's either that or you leave the axles, driveline, exhaust and do about the same amount of work removing the starter, getting the flex plate bolts out and all the bellhousing bolts, etc. I think the axles/exhaust/driveline hardware is way easier to reach, fuss with and remove than the bellhousing bolts, flex plate etc.
And you have to consider what will make reassembly/reinstallation easier. I would tend to lean towards doing a little more work if it's easier/ less frustrating overall.
