    Automatic V8 S5 to an A7?

While I would love to get an S7 (and still plan to at some point), I'm considering trading in my automatic V8 S5 for a slightly used A7.

From a power and performance perspective only, would going to a stock A7 (not going to do an ecu flash yet) feel like a downgrade as a daily driver over an 2009 automatic S5?

If you like to drive at red line on daily basis, yes. If you drive mostly just to get by, not much. The torque band in 3.0 V6 SC in A7 is more usable than that V8 in your S5 so the acceleration could be even quicker. However, you will feel slow in a big car like A7 but it's actually not.

Can't speak to the S5 V8 but the A7 definitely felt slower than the B8.5 S4 I ended up getting. I came out of a C6 A6 and test drove the C7 A6 and A7 (a few times) before I got an S4 and felt the difference in the S4 immediately vs. both A6's and the A7. DSG is probably a significant part of it. I always felt the C6 was just a step behind where I wanted it to be and that didn't change in the newer generation.

Agree with post above, though. It depends on how you drive and what you want out of it.

S4 has more power (just 23 but more is more) but lighter and DSG shifts better than ZF 8 speed. Compare to your C6 A6 it would feel faster. I used to own S4 and I was considering C7 A6 before I got the S4 as well. I could see myself skip both to get S6 though but it wasn't available by that time.

^ Yeah, I got my S4 right before the S6 and RS5 were released. I knew they were coming but was (and still am) happy with the S4 and didn't want to spend an extra $15K - $25K for an S6 or RS5, with no room for negotiation immediately upon their release.

Interestingly, I know it is faster, but the C7 didn't feel much faster (if at all) than the C6. It was far more luxurious and smooth though.

Both stock, pretty sure your butt dyno will feel it more with the S4. Its just more nimble and easier to toss around. Tuned? Who knows.

It will feel slow in D. It really wakes up in S mode. If you do a tune and drive it in sport, it will be a different animal.
