we got a 02 audi a4 1.8t quattro. What is the difference between these two engines? I got an answer earlier and he said that the cooling and pcv systems are a bit different. Just wondering if our mechanic is going to have any problems putting the 03 amb auto ftw engine in our awd car

there's supposedly vin from 040001 and above, and through 040000

I'm confused on what you mean by there's supposed to be vin from 040001 and through 040000? Not sure if this helps, but there was a vin split in my engine, b6 1.8t Fwd amb, that I believe is at 500000. It does effect which parts you need in your engine. Ecstuning does a good job of bringing the information to your attention when you are ordering parts, so you can double check you get the right ones. Also mine is a 2003, and the engine is before the vin split.

Ohh ok, I see what you meant, the wording confused me. There is a vin split as follows: up to 8E_3_040000, 8E_3_040001 through 8E_3_500000, and 8E_3_500001+. There is also a split in the 2004 model but that has a 4 instead of a 3 for the different year model. I assume yours it's 8E_2_xxxxxx. Yes there is a difference in the pcv system between the splits, not sure on the cooling but it seems probable.

Ya that's what I meant. I am wondering of there will be any additional cost to us from the mechanic for any changes in the pcv system and cooling to make it work. Our Vin last 6 digits are 100000 which is >040000 so it's classified from 040000. Just want to know if the labor cost will be the same as doing a 1-1 swap
