My car has left me stranded once again

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Last week I was accelerating onto the highway and the motor completely cut out on me. Wouldn't start back up right away but I gave it 30 seconds and it was fine. This happened merging onto two different highways that day. It also died out on me in traffic at 20mph in low rpm in second gear.

Unfortunately I didn't have my vagcom with me at the time to scan the car but did some research and assumed it was the crank sensor and replaced it same day. Car had no problems for a week until last night when I drove to my cousins house and parked for a few hours. Went back out that night, started the car, it started up but then it died half a second later.

We scanned the car and the only things that come up are for the oil temp sensor short to ground, which has always come up, and a new code 01311 information data is intermittent. All fuses in the car are good also.

Car is stage 3 with EPL tune, new injectors, new fuel pump, new maf, new coilpacks, new spark plugs.

Is it possible I have a faulty crank sensor?

Cam position sensors can do that to you.

Is assume cam sensors would throw a code though.. Coolant temp sensor would keep the car starting even when the engine is cold?

Not sure I just had an issue similar on a 2.0 and throwing cps code. But they seemed to have similar symptoms and I found sometimes can cause the cps code to be shown. 14$ sensor replacement fixed the issue it was cracked. I know its a whole different animal but it's easy to check and cheap to replace. gl

Does your EPC light stay lit after starting the car? That could mean your throttle body is going bad, try to calibrate it with Vag-Com first, then clear the ECU of codes and see if the light remains on.

The fuel pump went on me a month ago and I had it replaced by a shop. The car is parked an hour away from my house which sucks because I can't trouble shoot after work. I do smell fuel but who knows, maybe fuel filter is clogged. Don't know if something like that throws a code or not..

If it's fuel smell in the engine Bay Area that's normal. Your motor gets flooded with fuel if the car won't start. I can smell fuel in my engine bay when my motor is running and that fine. Did you check if you're getting spark?

Look at the rpm in vcds when cranking if you think it may be the crank sensor.
Turning on any of the output tests will fire the fuel pump.

    Edit
    Didnt notice you drove it.
Intermittent ones suck, keep the cable with you so you can catch it when it is acting up.
Watch fuel trims if you think pump.
There are only 2 things needed to make an Audi work properly - Duct tape and WD40. If it moves and it shouldn't - Duct tape. If it doesn’t move and it should - WD40.

The car runs again! Issue was the harness that supplies power to the pump is faulty and loose. That's why car would die randomly as I would accelerate or hit bumps in the road. Thanks for everyone's help!!
