Just Bought B8 S4 with some Mods and have some questions

    Hello all,

I just purchased a slightly used 2011 S4 in which the previous owner lightly modified. I have not even driven the car yet as it is being shipped from California to my home in Texas as I type this. The car has the Stasis tune, the Stasis springs and anti roll bar (touring suspension), the Stasis exhaust and some VMR V710 wheels.

I have a 2006 Saleen and am very familiar with the aftermarket world as well as supercharged engines. It's nice to see both Audi and Ford using TVS style blowers, they are a great form of forced induction.

I have been doing research on Stasis as well as other tuners such as AWE and APR. I know certain individuals will agree that one tuner is better than the other for different reasons but I still want to hear your thoughts. I have been informed that Stasis is a bit more conservative with their tuning than their competitors. Can you guys shed some light on this topic please?

I have also read that I should contact Stasis with my VIN to ensure I have the new v2 software rather than the outdated v1.

I am currently shopping for an air intake system right now and really like the look of the AWE full carbon package http://www.awe-tuning.com/awe-tuning...-intake-system. Are there better intake systems out there?

Any guidance and advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks gents.

Everything is subjective in terms of what is better. You can check out the 1/4 mile times in the sticky and compare the tunes there.

It all depends on what your plans are for the car, if you just want a nice daily driver, the stasis tune is perfectly fine.

If your going for a record or want to drag the car, look to APR or GIAC stage 2.

Stasis can check based on the VIN what revision it is.

Congrats on the car. Any pics?

The Stasis tune is a little more conservative and good on reliability but obviously all that can be subjective to driving habits.

We do sell a ton of APR tunes and theres are very reliable as well.

Here are a few other intake options we have here.

    Hey Mickey,

If you'd like, I'd be more than happy to connect you with an AWE Tuning and G.I.A.C. dealer in The Woodlands who would be able to help you out if you decide to go that route.

Better is always subjective, agreed. However, I guess I can breakdown what I mean individually as better. This car is a daily driver for me. Granted, I want it to be quick, fun and reliable. So when I say are there better tunes I guess I mean tunes that make more power and still allow for the same drivability I would have with the Stasis tune. I also see that APR has a power play deal where they offer their tune and upgrade much cheaper if you are currently using a competitors software. http://www.goapr.com/news/2012/10/31...si-power-play/

    What is GIAC stage 2?

Jesse, thanks. I have pics right now but they are dealership pictures and I would rather wait to post my own when the car arrives.

So you are stating that the more aggressive APR tunes are very reliable for a daily driver? How much does fuel economy suffer given all driving habits remain the same?

Is any dyno testing proving one intake superior to others in terms of added power?

That is the car and I did a ton of digging before purchasing. My best friend is a GM of an Audi dealership and he helped me with the digging. I've seen the actual police report of the accident, carfax, talked to previous owner, etc. The car was in a minor accident, front collision with a MKZ. There is no frame damage, and everything has been repaired as necessary. The son and the father at the dealership were very transparent with me from the start about the vehicle and its history. I know some people on here would never buy a title salvaged car but everything with this car checked out. The car had $4000 in damage as stated by both the police report and the repair shop (no totaled car worth $50k is going to have that minimal of damage).

I have already purchased an extended (third party) warranty for the car as well through my uncle who is a GM at a Mercedes dealership. I really don't want to make this thread about this issue. I would really like to stay on topic if possible. Thanks for the concern.

Here are my 2 cents regarding fuel economy: I'm the 2nd owner of my car and it had V 1.0 of the APR tune, one of the very first cars to get chipped (it was delivered in December '09 by the way). I bought it in April 2012 and never bothered to upgrade the tune until a few months ago in anticipation of the pulley upgrade and going to Stage II+ (I already had the APR exhaust). I can't say I've noticed an increase in consumption: still averaging ~18 mpg with 90% city driving. On the freeway the most I've gotten is 27.3 mpg. I know it's not the same as going from stock to chipped, but it's still a different tune.

I also had the APR tune on my GTI and didn't notice an increase in fuel consumption until I got the upgraded HPFP, but that was to be expected.

Regarding intakes, I wouldn't put much weight on its power effect because the delta is so small compared to real power mods. You'll get a more free-flowing system and can hear the supercharger whine a little more, at least that's the case with my EuroCode intake. Technically my throttle response should be higher but was it honestly noticeable? No, but the throttle response has always been amazing so not sure how much better it can get.

Thanks for the input. I have decided to go with the Roc Euro intake as it seems bring the most supercharger whine to the car. I have a blown Saleen and love the sound of the blower whine so it's an easy decision for me.

Yeah if you really wanna hear it, that's the way to go. I wanted something on the milder side. Nice to have options.
