    Replacing front wheel bearing

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have a front wheel bearing that needs replacing , the replacement looks pretty straight forward the only thing that I wonder about is the removal of the wheel bearing off of the hub. Has anyone done this themselves and if so how did they remove the wheel bearing.

I do this on my race car a few times a year and it's not a huge undertaking except for needing a really strong torque wrench for the center bolts and time to take everything apart. I would also make sure nothing needs to be pressed in because that can sometimes hold things up. Do you have a workshop manual for the job?

Edit: Or the post directly above mine. Clearly my typing speed isn't good this morning.

You will want to get the torque specs for the b8 task before you start this job. I know for a fact that some of the bolts you will remove for the task are one time use bolts, and axle bolts are highly stressed parts that require precise torque to assure safe reliable results. There are some brake DIY threads that will get you some of the brake related torques, as for the other torques, hopefully some one will chime in with some technical procedures for those tasks.

    Good luck with the r&r.

How many miles are on your car? Do you track it? What happend to the old bearing?

Axle bolts are 19mm hex. I'd pop the wheel off, take the center cap off, lower car again, loosen the axle bolt and then get started. You'll need a triple square (XZN) i think in 12 or 14 for the bolts holding the actual bearing off. I had to go to a shop to remove them from the hub. Post up your experience for those in the future.
