So I recently bought a set of b6 a4 rims and tires from cl and put them on my a6. Everything was fine until today when my gf was driving it and said the abs esp and brake light were on and it beeped 3 times at her. Brake light flashing. Done a bit of searching and couldn't find anything about rims causing this problem.. Could it be causing it? There is a slight vibration on the freeway. Is the center bore on the rim too big? Please anything input would be much appreciated.

is it still on? the lights? scan the ABS Module. There could be a fault. Usually when you get ABS,Brake and ESP light and it beeps three times it means your ABS Module is shot, lost its coding or bad connection

It stays on until I shut the car off then when I restart it it stays off but will eventually come back on. Do I need a vagcom to scan the abs module?

When changing your wheels over, you might have disturbed some brake dust or dirt in or around the area of one of the ABS sensors! I’ve had this happen to me. After changing wheels or brake pads I start the car up, move forward and get the 3 beeps and the dash lights up. If the ABS sensor rings doesn't give a nice square wave signal to the ABS unit, that’s what you get….
If you have an airline, pull each wheel off and blow in around the back of each hub while rotating the axle and see if that helps. It’s a quick and free check to do…

I would not use brake cleaner on electronics/sensors. Stick with compressed air. Worst case scenario - you can use 91% ISO alcohol (rubbing alcohol) to clean electronics. Given that the sensor itself is protected from the elements however, I cant imagine it would warrant any type of cleaning solution.

I didn't use any cleaner, just blow out any brake dust/dirt from the ABS sensor ring that is wrapped around the outer CV joint. Hope that makes sense?

Update: I found the sensors on the backside of the disc but didn't touch them. Changed back to my old rims and tires and drove it around for a bit. No abs light esp or brake light... My question now is why would it go on for the a4 rims but not the stock a6 rims? The two front tires were bad but i don't think that'd make it go off? Any ideas? On a different note I learned I have bilstien shocks up front that are yellow and the rear shocks are red. I'm assuming the rear are stock?

The wear on the two tires could be the cause (the ABS/ESP measures rotation speed of each wheel). Also, are all four of the tires that came on the A4 rims the exact same size ?

No, the two front are 205/40/R17 where I believe the rear tires are 225/45/R17

The tire size should be the same front to rear. This is your problem. The wheel speeds are different between front and rear axles when they should be the same. Basically you're making the ABS module mad.....

Awesome! Thank you very much! I thought about that but didn't think that was causing it. Thanks again
