Are Audi Owners Just Not Friendly to One Another?

Just something I've noticed lol. S4/S5/modded audi owners seem not to notice one another on the road, or just don't care, at least in the NY area. I get more attention from 335i's than fellow audi owners! What gives!?

Met a modified b8 a4 the other day, i sat back and listened as he tried to convince me he was making 440 wheel, and welded his own exhaust together out of "a bunch of different metals"

Not true for all but certainly for some. The other day an RS5 driver passed by me in a parking lot when i got out of my car and he def saw me. Completely ignored me and just kept driving by as i nodded and acknowledged him.

I came from Subaru where EVERYONE waves to one another. I realized after the 6th S4 I waved to (with only weird looks in response) it's not the Audi thing to do.

I drive a b6 a4 with s4 body and I always get waves or looks from b8 s4/s5 guys. I have yet to not get a thumbs up or a wave from anyone in an audi...

Go to a track day. I have found that most people who go to track days are the nicest bunch you will ever meet. Despite the obvious potential for dick measuring, I find egos and attitudes are largely left outside the gates.

Around Chicago everyone monds their own business. Ive seen a couple newer S4s drive by like noone else is on the road, its always the younger guys who notice and wave especially the B5 guys.

In my neck of the woods, many S4 and S5's, a bunch of A8's (if I only could pull the trigger on an S8), but nobody ever acknowledges. The closest I have seen to goodwill is someone with an S5 parks close to me, extreme rear of parking lot, at the gym.when I had motorcycles, it was always drop your hand down on the side and give a little love,not what I have seen with Audi. At the end of the day, I couldn't care less.

Who cares. I really enjoy my car. I am not driving it for status or recognition. I simply thought it was really an attractive and functional sedan for my needs with performance to boot. The people that don't show love either don't know what their driving or are narcissistic A Holes, neither of which are people I want acknowledgement from or care to know

With all the compliments from other people it doesn't matter. People admire the S4 even people that don't drive one that's a good feeling. I think other S4/S5 drivers see you they just think their car looks better lol. Funny thing is I like all kinds of Audi even the older ones. Maybe I'm just addicted to Audi's now. Anything Audi I'll look at :)

Some people might just not be enthusiasts! They're probably leasing the car and after that its on to the next one. I think most of the acknowledgment comes in the older models I.E B5, B6, B7. Which will probably change once more enthusiasts can get into to B8's and so on

BMWs outnumber Audis here in OKC and there are even less S-model cars but I did run into an R8 over the weekend. I have black emblems on the rear of my car and I still had the numbers the drag strip drew on my side window. We did some highway pulls as he was obviously messing around just a little. Let the exhaust sound off, I pulled up next to him, he waved at me and I gave him a thumbs up.

Other than that, all the other Audis I see around are either SUVs or base model A4s and A6s and a handful of A5s.

I always wave if I can spot an S/RS. I'd say I trade waves with 60%. Obviously higher percentage with younger drivers.

I think the fact that S/RS Audi's aren't necessarily prevalent in Pittsburgh area yields higher acknowledgement among us.

I look at it this way, if I see any possible type of modification to an S/RS then there's a possibility that they'll acknowledge or notice your car as well and possibly exchange compliments. Other than that, seeing stock S/RS models is typically driven by older crowd who got the car "just because" or I've even seen some Mom's driving them as the grocery getter. But even then so, some just mind their own business and I don't want to be that idiot giving friendly gestures and the other person is just staring at you like WTF is this guy doing or just looking straight lol, and at that point I'll just drop a couple gears with my AWE and establish my presence!

not gonna lie when i had a supermotar'd bike and an older guy on a hog or something would wave i wouldnt acknowledge it.. it was like they were riding around just to find other bikers to wave at. Although, when i'm in my S4 i, for the most part, always try to interact with other audi drivers.

Seem friendly but not many audi enthusiast in Vegas area. Pulling out of my neighborhood I did get a friendly honk from an a5 cabriolet driver though.

Definitely not an Audi thing. I exchange waves with Audi, Porsche, and Volkwagen drivers regularly.


In general, people are just not as friendly as they used to be.

I understand the motorcycle thing, the need to look out for one another. But the car Fraternity is not very effective. I don't see the BMW or the MB people doing it ether. I do think if you have made eye contact you should at the least acknowledge one another though. I have tried a couple of times but then have noticed people are busy while they are driving, the worst is texting and they seem to be in there own world. My wife is like that, I can pull up beside her and she will not even notice I've gone as far as circling her an still nothing. So with all this it may be because they are preoccupied.

I know the feeling, when I used to have my modded A4's and I would try acknowledge S/RS models, especially modded ones, I would never get an acknowledgment, as if I was too low to acknowledge in my A4. Now with my S4, I feel like I don't see many modded Audi's riding around, maybe because I've changed the time I'm usually on the road and try to avoid traffic but I've had a few waves or thumbs up with other B8 S4's.

I wave at the Audis in the town that I work in slash grew up in, (a couple B5 s4 guys including my brother) and other audizine members I have met either at german car day or in my office parking garage have been very friendly.

There are so many Audis in eastern MA that if a car isn't modified I don't bother waving because I can tell they don't care.

I've enjoyed all the waves and greetings I've gotten while driving my Wrangler this winter... Sincerely nice group of people... no one cares if your jeep is modded or full of rust... you get a nice wave or smile or frown if it's really cold out cause you know the other guy is freezing his ass off too in his drafty old Jeep.

Just read this forum - every thread turns into a bitch fest - everyone is showing each other up - lol I get sucked into it too sometimes too and yeah it's sorta entertaining so not trying to be a hypocrite LOL - but...

...with that being said - I don't think we're as bad as the BMW folks on the roads. Perhaps the problem is that all those D-Bags are buying Audis now... seriously

An "Audi" has become a dime a dozen on the roads even the "S" Cars don't see many "RS" cars. But I see Audis everywhere here and nothing special anymore. Buy a Porsche and you will get waves. Porsche owners are very loyal and friendly from my encounters.

Enthusiasts share a passion so there's a feeling of kinship but for most people cars are just transportation and not a hobby, so to them waving to someone else in the same brand of car would be like waving to someone else walking down the street because he's also wearing Nikes.
