Lightbulb 2001 1.8T keeps killing mass air sensors

2001 A4 Quattro 5spd 1.8T AWM- keeps killing mass air sensors.

Iv had the car for a aprox. 6 months now, it has an apr stage 1 tune, turbo back exhaust and forge splitter valve. All regular maintenance has been done.

This car has gone through 4 mass air sensors in a 6 month stretch. First one was completely dead. (low circuit) second one the car ran with no codes but jerked around under acceleration. Third one wouldn't idle worth a but ran good when flooring it and the fourth one the car ran good for a while but now i keep getting a lean code < caused by the mass air. All of these sensors were purchased used but the odds of 4 bad sensors is very slim. I need to fix the problem before i spend the cash on a new sensor.

Is the extra air flow from more boost and being tuned killing my sensors or do i have bad wiring. like what the hell is going on here? Somebody PLEASE help!!

I do not have vag com just a generic obd2 code reader. I know i need to get vag and i will eventually.

1st, you keep buying used sensors. These should be replaced every 100k, so you have no idea of the mileage already on them. 2nd, you could try CRC MAF cleaner before replacing them. Heck, you should be using this stuff before even placing them on your car. 3rd, what intake setup do you have? 4th, next time around buy one brand new...and make sure it is Bosch.

i did clean them all with mass air flow sensor cleaner, i have a modded factory air box and k&n filter. The k&n filter is oil free. So you think that all 4 sensors were already bad before i got them? what are the odds of that

Where did you buy them from? I have sold my old MAFs before, but I always listed the mileage on them so buyers were aware. If you buy one that has like over 100k, been sitting on a shelf for a while, then you install it then most likely it would have crapped out on you. Now, if you stated that this happened 3-4 times with brand new Bosch MAFs then I would def say you have an issue. But at the current juncture, I can't rule that out since you purchased all used.

I would. If that one blows, then I would say you def have an issue. But you would need a brand new "Bosch" unit for the variable. The other 4 used ones blowing is enough proof for me you have an underlying issue...if a brand new one blows.

Out of curiosity, how long did the best one of these 4 last?

1 i could tell right away was bad. the other lasted a couple weeks. im starting to maybe think that all of these sensors may have just been fu**ed already or on ther way out when i got them

Don't spray the new MAF with cleaner before swapping it in. Just swap it in.

It will be a week or 2 before I can buy a new one but I will keep you posted on the issue.
