S6: Automatic upshifts in manual mode ???

Is this normal? It seems that even in manual mode, when I am at partial throttle, the car will upshift on its own at around 5500-5800rpm. It does hold to redline if I am deep into the throttle, however. Kinda defeats the purpose of manual mode

I think that can be changed with proper coding, I know we had an all-road that we did some vag-com coding with to stop it from automatically up and down shifting. Then again, I am no expert on your platform, so if not correct..free bump

I've also found that, in manual mode, it will even downshift with heavy throttle at low (say, 2,000 rpm) revs. That one frustrates me because sometimes I just want to ride the wave of torque.

Were you in Dynamic mode? Does it happen in any mode?

Happens in any mode, even dynamic, when in manual. I just thought this wouldn't happen in manual, because it is supposed to be manual.

Gave my S7 a run last night to see if mine does this too. I was able to cruise at 5500-6000 RPM with no problem. I then thought maybe the setting, so I went from Comfort all the way to Ind with no change.

This has happened to me as well. I would be accelerating and it will shift automatically when I am in 1st and 2nd gear well before red line. It sucks because it tends to shift right before I would and causes me to double shift sometimes. It is not always, I think it is like you said on anything less than full throttle applications. I have even left it in Manual and just accelerated and it does shift on its own well before red line. I figured it was the car protecting itself.....

I get that the car needs to protect itself, but isn't that what fuel cut-off at redline is for? Or shouldn't it auto-shift at redline and not before? I did a search on this and apparently the S4 DSG does the same thing. Apparently, then, it is in the DSG programming, but I am really not happy about it. Manual mode should be manual mode, with protections set at the outermost limits. Some tuner should be able to get aound this, no?

i can confirm it does it on the S4, my biggest irritation with the otherwise awesome transmission. If i am stupid enough to redline the engine and damage it it's my problem. The RS5 and R8 don't shift at redline as far as i know though.
