It wasn't too bad bad it but it had fair its share of annoyances. Fees were an extra $500 total, then it took a little time to wait for the paperwork as the auction was here in OR, but the title was shipped to the broker in FL, who then shipped it to me. Took a maybe a week after the auction for everything to fall into place. I'd do it again though. I just bought an mkIV VW through another auction and I'll do it again in the future. the deals you can find make it worth it. like a month ago I saw a 2012 S4 with red and black alcatara leather interior, with maybe 27k miles that ran and drove with bid price that was at $6k with buy it now for $20k. the problem with it was the driver side bumper look like it hit a curb and the tire was flat.

Sorry to be OT but did you go to the auctions first? Or is that just through the site? Also did you just use that site?

I'm possibly thinking of doing this for a third car, but I might just by a 240Z money pit.

Ehh, figured I'd post a link to the other build I started a few weeks ago for my wifes car. ->

Got the P3 digital gauge installed, which is perfect timing for switching on the APR stage 1+ tune I just found out I had yesterday. Now to aim for a HFC or Testpipe, and then focus on the FMIC

do not get another N75 valve. All it would do is mess up your ECU readings. That was an old trick to up the boost on AEB cars (pre-2000)

Got the steering rack and FCP control arm kit replaced. Now I've got an issue with the key fob not controlling the windows, but I found a thread on that so I'll see if I can rectify that issue later. Everything looks pretty decent right now but should be proper after the alignment scheduled for mañana.

Driving on Sat, the Audi shut off and broke down at the side of the road looks like its a Timing Belt related issue. Gonna order a new kit and throw it on. Wondering if I took the head off if I could tell bent valves and what not

In the process of unbolting the headers from the turbo, one of the bolt heads snapped off. Tried drilling them extracting it and snapped the extractor bit off in it as well. So now I'm looking for another k03 to pick up and swap parts

Not strip, but the bolt head broke off. Attempted to drill it out but the head off the extractor bit broke off inside the drilled hole and is uber stuck, tried everything to rectify tht including re-drilling a new hole in the bolt/bit-tip combo. 5 drill bit later, I'm nowhere closer, and bidding on ebay

What about welding a nut on it and using that? use a torch to heat the manifold a bit around the stuck bolt

Throwing one of these in since I'm in the area. This one is for a later B6, but instead of going through the hassle of sending it back I just used a golf tee and some electrical tape as a plug. Once clamped down it won't make a difference. I hope it makes as much a difference a people say. #FeelingIffy

A little late on the draw, but how bad was the steering rack job? I think I've got that job in my near future.

With the 1.8t it wasn't that bad. I'd do it again if I had to. Just set aside at least a full day. Get your rack from RackDoctor.net

    Jermunji's B6 Build Timeline

The compressor intake and outlet look pretty good for almost 200k eh? ;) minimal oil going in, also the turbo exhaust side is a nice golden brown so this is pretty good news as to the overall health of the system right now. Eventually, I'll add the catch can and breather kit from 034 motorsports but I'll be doing that to the wifes' gti before the b6 as I've got a bad intuition that the pcv system is clogged on her car, and everytime I think about it I just keep visualizing the turbo sucking up and chewing through all the crud just to make some power. Anybody else ever get nightmares about bad things happening to their car that just eats at them until the upgrade something? Maybe I'm just a hypochondriac.

Heres the stud tht broke off, with the extractor bit head stuck in the hole as well, and the 5 other ruined drill bits worth of drilling to save it, all in vain as now we're just throwing in a new OEM K03 that I picked up from Cascadegermanparts for under $550.

Awesome build thread! Most people just post photos instead of actually explaining whats going. Also thanks for posting pics of your car breaking and you fixing it. Keep up the good work.

You mentioned in the beginning of an oil leak. Now would be the time to address that. Give the engine a complete and full maintenance to make sure everything is in top shape. If you don't have any history on the car, you might want to consider doing a Seafoam treatment to reduce any oil sludge or other buildup over the years/miles. Also consider changing out front and rear cam seals after the cleaning is done.

When you did the timing belt, what also was replaced? Water pump (get one with metal impellers)? Tensioners? Accessory/Serpentine belt? Coolant flush? Look into doing a flush on all other fluids (transmission, differentials, brake, etc). Remember that brake fluid should be flushed out every 2 years regardless of miles for proper safety.

Just thought I'd mention it since you have the front opened up.

I've gave it a quick look over and I don't see leaks from valve cover gasket to head gasket area. I'm seeing some what appears to be oil residue around the snub mount area. I'm wondering if the oil leaking that I was seeing was actually the power steering leak and if my oil that was disappearing is due to the notorious issue of the 1.8T's simply consuming it as I've read thread upon thread about. I'll be taking some photos.

Good idea. It will be nice to theoretically have a 200k engine cleaned up and ready for another 200k. I've heard about people discussing seafoam and a "BK44" product if I'm not mistaken? add it to the gas tank and let it burn it out correct?

I'm doing the timing belt change right now as my failing to take the Deutsch Law of Tolerances seriously is the cause of my current debacle. Waterpump is brand new (with the metal impellers), as well as the timing belt tensioner, pulley, and of course the coolant will be too. Also, since I use sandpaper to smooth out the piston/valve contact points and actually gave the pistons a thorough cleaning I will also be doing and oil/oil filter change all before getting it fired up . Brake flush was done right when I did the B5S4 upgrade, and the serpentine belt, tranny fluid were done within a month after I bought it. I need to check the diff fluid though.

Found this thread as good info around using Seafoam. Clicky click

    and this one.... Clicky click

Since you've mentioned reaching 200k miles on the engine, I would strongly recommend replacing the oil pump. Mine gave out at 237k miles causing me to replace the whole engine. Don't have to replace it immediately, but would be good to start saving up and getting it done in the next 10k or so miles.

    Jermunji's B6 Build Timeline

A few of the piston before and afters

Went from 80 grain to 120, 400, 1000. As you can see theres still some scuffing from the coarser grains, anybody know if thats an issue or am I ok where its at now?
