Can I use a 1K0951605C alarm horn on a car that came with a 1K0951605F alarm horn? The C's are more plentiful and cheaper.

F supercedes C, so they are compatible.

That's not what Audi says. But Audi says the B8.0 A4 came with 1K0 951 605 C. That has been dropped as of Nov '17. You can instead use 1K0 951 605 F, but this is forward interchange only. F can be used in place of C, but C is not qualified to be used in place of F.

My Aug '08 build came with C:

    Subsystem 2 - Part No: 1K0 951 605 C
Component: LIN BACKUP HO H03 1301

So I would wonder if Veedubber's actually came C originally, and someone has already replaced it once with F. If so, the original spec was C, so you could use C again (as there appears no other changes to support the F; this would be unlike the white cap PCV that had a matched ECM software update, making going back to black cap not possible).

From the VCDS scan of a 2011 avant:

    Subsystem 2 - Part No: 1K0 951 605 C
Component: LIN BACKUP HO H05 1501

Notice the hardware (Hxx) and software values are newer, but the p/n is unchanged.

Interesting, I wouldn't be surprised if it's been replaced. every single audi I've owed the alarm horn eventually stops working.

    Thanks for the correction.
Interesting, I always thought that supercession means that there's a new revision of a part as the old one is no longer made, but that old part still works.

Audi is posting the statement a lot it seems in the parts catalog. But it's easy enough. The new part might have changes/enhancements. So it can sub in for the old part in the old application. But there's no validation that the old part could sub in for an application that was built around the new part. Forward only supercession.

That's why when things like control modules are looked at, you can see the complete supercession chain from the oldest used rev. But I always say, don't use a rev older than whatever your car came with. (and by older, I mean older in the chain; it's not unheard of for the chain to go to a later letter and then come back to an earlier letter).

Picture for reference, taken from the K04 install DIY.

In the picture, to the right of the turbo PCV line, there is a black rubber vacuum hose (with the part number stamped on it). Toward the bottom of that hose, directly above the compressor inlet, that hose is secured to the head with a black plastic clip. Mine is broke and that hose is rubbing and slowly wearing against the silicon hose on my intake.

    Question:
    • Does anyone know the part number for that specific clip?
