I don't know if I should get involved here. . .but here goes:

265/35 tires are perfect for wheels 22x9 - 22x10. There would be no other use for them on an S/Q5.

The first number is the metric cross section of the tire or width in millimeters, sidewall-to-sidewall. (This is not the tread-width or bead-width.)
The second number is the aspect ratio, given as a percentage of height-to-width. So the height is 35% of the width.
As you go wider by increasing the first number, they also get taller. Once they get too tall, 29.4" in our case, you must lower the aspect ratio.
Of course you have to have wheels the proper width to support the tires you're wanting.

    stock<----------------->wide
    20"s:
    255/45, 265/45, 275/40, 285/40, 295/40
    21"s:
    255/40, 265/40, 275/35, 285/35, 295/35
    22"s:
    255/35, 265/35, 275/30, 285/30, 295/30

You can't go bigger than 29.4" OAD because of suspension clearance.
If you go below 29.0", you'll have an increase in torque, as well as odometer mileage.
That's why the 265's, 285's, and 295's are ideal on our platform.
Just remember. . .the aspect ratio changes with the wheel diameter and/or the width.
    The more you know...

Going to get my tires mounted, just wanted to know if I need TPMS stems or just the basic ones?

The B8 & B8.5 don't use TPMS sensors, so don't waste your money.

Once you start going with too big a wheel you sacrifice acceleration, braking, fuel economy and ride comfort; about the only thing it's good for is aesthetics and that's highly subjective.
I think you missed the point(s) and seem to be a bit misguided as well (he's not running a 365, and his sidewall is much smaller than stock...hence the crying face). If you meant to say "I would never go above the stock 20" wheel", fair enough. No one is going to argue that a bigger wheel means less sidewall and a rougher ride. However, there are a couple of 40 and 35 setups that we run that ride as good as, if not better than, the stock tire for the given wheel size. If you have firsthand experience with a 295/40r20 vs. 255/45r20 (or 295/35r21 vs. 255/40r21) and think it's a worse ride than the stock size, then I guess you're entitled to your opinion. You'll be hard pressed to find many people with those setups that agree with you though.

Geez people get crazy over tire sizes. I meant it more of a joke. I mean I know the ride wonít be as nice as really soft winter tires. Plus Iím riding lower on air ride so my rebound isnít a cushy either. But some of you are to intense over wheels..

LOL! It drives like those good old movies too. No slapping or choking. To me a 40 series tire on a SUV is kinda pointless.

Thanks , it is by far the best vehicle I have ever owned. So much aftermarket out there too for a unassuming crossover and dont get me wrong I love seeing Q5s with 22s tucked up into the wheel wells, I just dont like the way they drive.

@donnyk any issues with the rub running 295/40? I have 275/40 on the wifeys Q5 with BBS 20x10 et25 and love it. I just picked up another Q5 for me and thinking of going with a meatier tire.

    Your set up looks great

A little 'will they fit' quiz for those in the know...

Im looking at a wheel that is 21x10.5 ET15 square. I'll be on air if I decide to go with these. Will they fit?

I think the tyres are 275/30/21, but I'll double check.

So the answer is, when you air out, you could probably manage to just barely tuck the tires. You might have to roll the fender just a bit or play with the camber but itís probably possible. It will probably look awesome if you are looking for a hyper flush look while parked. The problem is at driving height, it will look a bit mexi flush.

The only issue with 295's and that fitment is that you'll waste more time staring at how good it looks lol.

On the off-chance you need these in Norcal, I do have a set sitting in my garage.

I'd need them in NC, Jerry :/

I'm sure I could find a shop close to you where you could drop them off for pack and ship?

If it comes to that, let's talk. One does have rash - not sure if that matters. There are a few sets in the classifieds right now. One in SoCal at a reasonable price - maybe that's better for you? Another in NJ that's listed at more, but logistics might be a lot easier?

No rub at all (and I tested it extensively to verify). Thanks. I'll post better pics tonight. I ended up removing the chrome rim guards. I left them on initially to see if i'd like them or not and after a week or so I just like the clean look of the black.

For reference hereís the same setup but with the chrome lip rim guards installed. I ended up removing them, without it gives a more aggressive look in my opinion.

Looks great.. Iím actually a fan of the chrome or polished rim guard against white. But Iím biased. I picked up a set of 295/40 for my rays Volk g25 mine are black with the chrome rim . Will be mounted next week.
