I've abandoned the 19x9.5 +35 concept. I'm definitely more in favor of 20-inch rims. I have two options:

    1. 20x10 28+
    2. 20x9 35+
The 20x10 is definitely cheaper for me.

I have a regular Q5 2.0 with standard suspension, I'm afraid that the 20x10 28+ might stick out too much beyond the outline of the car, or rub somewhere. The only thing I could do is change the springs to -30/35. Can a 265 tire fit a 10-inch wide rim and should I be afraid of 20x10 with standard suspension?

20x10 et28 is great. And the 265/45 is totally fine and normal. You’ll still have a nice squared sidewall. You’re 100% good. Even with 275/40 but I like 265/45 better.

Hello, I have a 2015 ROW model SQ5, it's currently winter here but I went ahead and found a used set of Vossen HF-2's. They are 21x10.5 ET+35 (deep concave if this matters) so I was wondering what sort of spacers I need for front and back. They came with 285/30 tires on them that I hope are useable for the remaining tread life, even if they are slightly less diameter.

The tires look kind of stretched on the wheels, not sure if it's the width or the tire design but not really a fan, so in the future I'd want different tires.

    Thank you

You can run the 285/30, but I'm sure they look a bit puny. Go 285/35 next time. For spacers, you only need 5mm to clear the suspension with the 285. If you go 295/35 next time, you'll need 10mm spacers. 👍🏼

Thanks Mops. Would running 10mm from the start with 285s look weird or not work?

Not at all. 5mm is required, 10mm would look best.

Cheap ESR FF15 20x10.5s. They didn't have the +25s available and i was in a jam, so i bought the +40s and used the existing spacers on the car. (15mm front, 20mm rear)
    Potenza 295/40r20s.

I think i have some space inboard if i wanted to move to a 12-13mm spacer up front, but don't know if it's worth tracking down.

Hi @Mops@Nemesis I just picked up a set of Macan "spyders" 20x10 ET19 and 20x9 ET26. Really excited!!! From what I'm reading in this thread, I can run 295/40 and 265/45, lowered on KW coilovers, without rubbing, correct?!? Can you please let me know which stud bolts I should be using? 27mm? I'm currently running spacers (20mm and 15mm I believe) with my oem 21's. Thank you in advance for your time.

Nice! The 10" ET19 is slightly aggressive, but I feel you'll be rub free. I like the specs. 265/45 and 295/40 will be correct. You'll want 14x1.5x27-28 R14 ball lugs. 👍🏼

Hey @Mops@Nemesis since you're in here...

I'm somewhat struggling with my setup. On paper it sounds it should work (and i know that phrase makes everyone cringe, including myself) but I'm getting some pretty good rubbing in the back.
    ESR FF15 20x10.5 +40 (15mm spacer front, 20mm spacer rear)
    Potenza 295/40r20

I did some digging in your Flickr album and figured i was "only" 3mm more aggressive in the back than some of your setups, but sure am rubbing more than i'd like.
I did just pick up some 12.7mm spacers to put up front and move the 15mm to the rear if the effective +27.3 up front works.

Any thoughts/feedback? The car is low, but it's not insane/doesn't look any lower than some of your setups. Pics a couple posts above sure look a little more poke-y than yours.

I'm not Mops, but one theory is the tire itself. I didn't rub with 20x10 et33 with 12mm spacers on 295/40 Falken Azenis, but did the moment I put on 295/40 Nittos. I even had 295/40 DWS06 on my old VFF102s (20x10 et 30) with the same 12mm spacers and didn't rub. You're a bit lower than me and your wheels are a bit wider though. Not sure if the 15 spacer will work in the back. Maybe try putting it on and seeing if it gives you enough room?

    @The_Beater

Tire make/model for sure can make a difference.

I actually ran 10.5 ET18 on 295 with no rubbing at all. This sounds like a simple alignment issue. To run these setups, you must leave some of the natural camber at the rear. I'm betting you're running around -1.2. You need to be around -1.6. That alone should correct all rubbing. And -1.6 is far from aggressive camber, just slightly out of spec but fully aligns properly.

I don't see any potential clearance issues setting the tire 5mm more inboard than it is, but it's pending what happens up front (which is clearing everything now with no issues). :)

You're probably onto something with the camber, it looks pretty upright. (Though i am used to looking at the back of my Miata running more like -3.0)

Yep, I'd say that's it. Very common with a drop and aggressive wheels/tires. During alignment, the rear is taken back to stock spec and some camber is needed. The front is left at -1.8 or whatever and the rear is taken back to -1.2 ish. I'd for sure try that first. You can normally see the rear is too far upright, especially compared to the front.

    10.5 ET15 and a very squared 295 with -1.8 and zero rubbing 😆

I've got two NB1s, one intended for track, one intended for street use. I need to get rid of the street one, i don't drive it and it's just a waste. (I also have an S2000 that frankly does most things better from a street car perspective)

Anyways, i played around with spacers last night and got super granular.

Moved to 12.7mm spacers up front (from 15mm), giving me an effective offset of +27.3.
Moved the 15mm spacers to the back from (20mm), giving me +25.

It's surprising how different (better) it looks with such a small change, and so far no rubbing on my commute to/from work downtown today. In the next few days i'll take it where i was noticing the most rubbing and see what's up.

Everything else from here will have to come from alignment for sure; there's no more safe room up front. (Suppose i could buy another pair of 12.7mm spacers for the rear but... alignment will have more payoff and be "free" from a "while i'm in here" perspective).

View angle is strange on this pic. I promise it doesn't have positive camber.

Next up: Clean it up, get the cameras out, and see if i can be cool like Mops.

HA! I still enjoy shooting, but the edits stress me out lol.

The rear looks perfect now. That tire does have some bulge, but if you do rub, you're so close to rub free. But they should now tuck in enough over dips to clear.

I think MOST of the bulge is the rim protector (I notice the same thing on the Maxxis VRs i run on the Miata), but it does seem to run on the wide side. :) I'm good with a rub or two under extreme conditions, just didn't want to screw up a tire. It's not going to do that now so I'm good.

You shoot Canon, right? What are you editing with?

I'm in the throes of a switch from Pentax to OM System and that's been equal parts "wow learning curve" and "whoa cheat code" which has been interesting.

I'm very much a noob! I've had nice gear for a decade or so, but only use it every couple of months and have never taken the time to learn much. I had to check my gear lol. I have the EOS R and currently only have the 24-70 F2.8. I had many L lenses with my previous crop body.
