    Post Flat-Bottom Steering Wheel Guide...

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Since the original steering wheel posts have become quite cluttered and there are new offerings I thought it would be good to start some new threads with all of the information and offerings in one spot.

These are full packages that are plug and play with the proper C7 multi-function controls, guaranteed to fit the first time and work perfectly right out of the box. Note that pricing may change with these specific wheels based on availability of them with C7 controls. Certain wheels may require being built with the proper multi-function controls which can increase pricing:

ALL C7 modes require an airbag for installation. The stock airbag attaches in an entirely different manner and is not compatible with these steering wheels.

C7.5 models with a flat-bottom steering wheel currently do not require an airbag for fitment, but all other C7.5 models require an airbag for fitment.

The RS7 comes with a wheel in Europe that has standard shift paddles:

For anyone interested there is the RS7 wheel which can have the extended shift paddles added:

Either is available. Note that the wheel was prepared for an S7, hence the badging.

Alex, apologies if that has been asked several times but by chance do you sell the wheels without the airbag?

Yes, all wheels are available without an airbag, inquire for pricing if needed.

Please note, no flat-bottom steering wheel will use a stock C7 airbag. The attachment system for the airbag is completely different. I've been asked a million times about this and I just want that to be clear for anyone purchasing through me or even elsewhere. The C7 airbag uses a pin system to mount the airbag and the flat-bottom uses a clip. There is absolutely no way to adapt the C7 airbag to any flat-bottom wheel.

Also note, there are now several choices of airbag floating around that look the same as a proper RS7 unit. Some of these are not going to work on the C7 properly. So buyer beware on eBay or other sources with "too good to be true" pricing as you may end up with items that don't work on your C7 model. Even if you see a wheel that has the right multi-function controls does not mean the airbag is correct, i.e. an S3 steering wheel has controls that may work but the airbag will not, won't even plug in. Just a heads up to anyone searching out there.

Are the new style shift paddles easier to use or just a styling statement? How do you install just the shift paddles?

Alex, do you sell these wheels without the airbag?

If so, how much does this cost:

(Smooth Leather, Double Stitching, w/ Extended Paddles, without airbag)

Just wanted to make sure I ran through all the details. I do get asked very often by C7 owners about compatibility. Oddly Audi uses a fairly different design for the back of the airbag on the round C7/D4 steering wheels than the flat-bottom wheels. The airbag offered in these packages is the same used in the European and RoW (Rest of World) RS7 with the flat-bottom wheel from the factory.

I will shoot you over a PM with information. I try to keep those prices separate as this causes confusion as to what is required for fitment. If you have a C7 you do need the proper airbag cannot reuse your stock one. For requests without airbags please do PM or email: [email protected]

So, if I'm interested in a flat bottom wheel for my RS7, does that mean that I can use the existing airbag?

Sorry, I will revise that statement above. The airbag with these flat-bottom packages is the same one used for the European and RoW market for the RS7.

The North American RS7 comes with a different airbag which is the same as the A6/7, S6/7 three spoke unit and will not work with the flat-bottom wheels. Sorry for any confusion.

Is the RS 6/7 wheel thicker than the us S6 wheel? It doesn't look much thicker but it's hard to tell.

Yes, all the flat-bottom wheels listed here are considerably thicker than the factory wheels, 4-5mm thicker.

These are designed plug and play, unless you are adding paddles or taking away heat, etc. Then you need to do some quick coding, simple work with Vagcom. Physical installation is less than 30 minutes.

You merely need a short flathead screwdriver and an M12 triplesquare (12 point) bit or Torx T55 socket. The airbag unclips from behind and the wheel is removed by undoing the center nut and sliding it off.

Cool, thanks. So you take the OEM RS6/7 wheel and just change the badge right? It would be S6 in my case. How long does it take?

Depends on the wheel specifically. The RS6/7 wheel has the proper controls, so for an S6 the badge would be swapped out and the proper airbag placed with the wheel. For wheels like the S4/5 or S-Line style the controls need to be swapped out from B8 to C7 style and badging changed.

Also for wheels with the extended paddles, most need to have the paddles retrofitted here before the wheel ships as only a handful of wheels have those from the factory. The RS6/7 wheel does not come with extended paddles so they must always be added as an extra.

Unfortunately the S-Line wheels only come with black or titanium stitching, red is not a regular option.

Occasionally I do run into some exclusive wheels that have not been fitted which have different stitching types or colors. I however have never seen an S-Line with red stitching sadly.

hi alex, will the RS6/7 flat bottom, full air-leather fit the B8/B8.5 A4/S4/allroad? or do you have the 2013 RS4 flat bottom steering wheel available as well? got price — thx!

The RS6/7 wheel has the incorrect controls for the B8 and B8.5. The RS4/5 wheel is proper and is listed here:

PM if you are interested and I can get you information on that specific fitment.

I don't want to be repetitive but seeing as it's a good chunk of $ I want to be very clear on this.

I know all these wheels will fit my b7 S4 but what I want to know is will the controls work after some VAG-Com coding or will they not function properly at all?

I'm planning to purchase the newest RSN-E unit as well so in that case the controls would have to work correct?
    Cheers!

I will PM you with information as this doesn't have anything that applies to the C7 models and will just cause confusion.

bump. any chance you might wrap a black wheel in beige air leather or regular for those that are stuck with, or in my case looking at, a beige interior car?

Wheels can be custom done with your choice of leather. I assume that you have a Moor Brown interior? There are the steel grey and moor brown flat-bottom wheels available in all smooth leather.

This wheel would come with a titanium stitching which would work well with the S6 interior that has contrast stitching. I do have one incoming for inventory that isn't spoken for which could likely work for you. Will send a PM now.

Alcantara seems like a really bad idea on a steering wheel as they can get very dirty. Do many people have them?

The one additional wheel that was coming in for inventory was purchased up yesterday. More are available to order in for a 3 week delivery or so. If you would like a quote sent over do let me know for what model you would need the wheel for and I'll get that right over.

Several people have purchased the alcantara wheels. Two are actually incoming right now, one for an RS7 and one for an S5. Generally it's a pretty specific request and the standard leather options sell a fair amount more.
