    Flat-Bottom Steering Wheel Guide...

Any chance you have access to some sort of leather or alcantera airbag cover? I really despise the plastic airbag.

From prior research I know the OEM audi exclusive leather airbags are only for the round wheels, but if you are aware of anything for FB wheels that would be excellent.

Also open to just a cover that sits over the plastic airbag piece. I figure that will at least be somewhat safe in the event of deployment.

Unlike the crazy folks such as OlyS6 that put a piece of carbon there to bang his head into...

I personally am not a fan of covering an airbag with anything. If it's a factory made airbag with the leather cover I would imagine it's all designed to work in harmony when the airbag deploys.

Unfortunately there is no leather covered airbags for these flat-bottom wheels. It's a shame because the round wheels for these models do have that option but the attachment style for the flat-bottom airbag is totally different than the round wheel airbag. Really wish I had a solution as well, sorry.

You may want to check around. It takes some work, but you can remove the cover off of the airbag assembly and replace it with a customized cover. I got my CF one (with leather center disc- this is the portion that pops out if the airbag deploys, leaving the harder outer assembly behind) from carbon designz. I would bet that you can find a custom made cover in leather. Also, just a thought, but although the airbag electrical attachments are different between the round and flat bottom steering wheels, I would be willing to wager that the dimensions of the cover of the airbag itself are the same, so if you can find one it would likely be worth prying the cover off of it and getting it to fit on your own airbag assembly.

The airbags for round and flat-bottom wheels from my experience are pretty different. The airbags for round wheels have a metal body and the body/attachment type are pretty different than the flat-bottom which has a plastic body and clips versus pins. I mean anything is possible and I have not taken apart either of these airbags so wouldn't totally know personally. They don't appear to come apart easily by my eye.

    Cheers,
You are right- they are different and they are a hassle to take apart. It would be best to find an OEM airbag cover for a flat bottom wheel and have that professionally covered in leather, and then place that onto an airbag assembly for a flat-bottom wheel. The problem I've run into in sourcing this stuff is that I haven't been able to find an airbag cover on its own, as they seem to already come assembled onto the airbag assembly from the manufacturer.

I want to know why my mother's Kia can have flat-bottom, heated steering wheel, but my Audi can't. 1st world problems, indeed.

I've always wondered the same. It's not just Audi though, most car manufacturers suck. You want to add this, you have to lose that. You want this, you're stuck with this too. All this package crap where each component is entirely unrelated but forced down your throat anyway.

Do any of the facelifted steering wheels work? I really miss the smaller airbag and design from my S3.

I've never understood the lack of heating on any flat-bottom wheel since they began being offered in TT and R8 models in 2007. That's 12 years and many updates/variations of these wheels without ever seeing a heated option in any model, not even Q7, Q8, newest A6/7, etc.

These are post-facelift wheels for the C7 models, but if you are referring to a post-facelift A3/S3/RS3 wheel those will not work as the multi-function controls do not work with the C7 or C7.5 models. The multi-function controls may look similar on the wheels above to the earlier A3/S3/RS3 but the C7 and C7.5 used a unique set of controls only shared by the A1 and Q3 oddly.

Agreed, have fun if your hand is greasy for whatever reason and you mistakenly touch it out of instinct.

    GAME OVER.

The carbon option seems killer, but for $3.5k no thanks lol.

Alcantara is actually very easy to clean and is reasonably stain resistant, which is why it's used in automotive applications. Dish soap and water on a soft rag works very well as alcantara is a synthetic and not a leather like suede which alcantara appears like. There are some great alcantara cleaners from Sonax and others that work wonders on really dirty alcantara.

Alcantara is the most requested leather on the custom wheels and it does appear to have an either hate it or love it relationship for most.

I hate that none of the C7 steering wheels ever had dedicated track skip buttons. I’m glad the C8 wheels are compatible, that’s the route I’m going in.

That's good to know, had no idea about those properties pertaining to alcantara. I wrench on all my own cars, I'm going to get a nice streak of oil on that beautiful alcantara in no time haha.

Yeah, it's a neat material and like you I wouldn't likely want it in my cars either. I would constantly be cleaning brake dust and grease off of it as well.

    Hi Alex,
Do you sell the airbag on its own for a C7.5 Flat bottom wheel?

I see this is in the C7 section of the forum. Do you guys do any work for the C6.5 steering wheels ? I'm still trying to find the part number of the steering wheel that would fit 2010 A6 without paddles.
