So i'll say upfront that i know my pads are low and that I've been waiting for the warning light to go off before i change them, however the lights I've been seeing recently aren't what i expected to see for low pads, now are they in the manual at all.
I've done some google and forum searches to no avail....

So here's the details

Like i said, i know my pads are low, but the light i expected to see for low pads is this, or similar (not my pic):

Initially i had my "BRAKE" light (as in the light that goes on when you put the e-brake on, the small red one) blink a few times with an audible chime dinging as it blinked on two separate occasions around Christmas time while i was driving (in pretty cold weather, i think this may end up being relevant). according to the owners manual this could be a low fluid/old fluid issue, but since i knew my pads were low i wasn't too concerned about a possible low fluid level know that the two could be related.

....still haven't gotten a low pad warning though

now in the past week i've gotten this a few times. it's a large "BRAKES!" in the center of the display that blinks in alternating fashion with the typical "BRAKE" light that's associated with the e-brake with an audible chime that dings away while they're blinking. they blink/ding for um,maybe 30secs then they stop and go away until a few days later.
not suer if it's relevant, but i do seem to notice a correlation with untypically cold temperatures. it may be coincidence, but i thought it worth mentioning

manual isn't any help, i've been coming up blank on google and some forum searches so i'm hoping someone here knows what this is
