Question TC and EPC Light with rough idle. Help?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So today while my car temp read -20 when i started it in the morning with the wind its reported the coldest day in Toronto at feel like -40.

Anyways warmed it up after 20 mins drove an hour to class.

Came out from class and started it up rpms went right up due to being so cold and sitting, after about 30 seconds or so i looked at my cluster noticed the traction control light was on along with the EPC light... then i noticed the rpms kinda fluctuating and some faint ticking sound might be just enhanced engine sound? considering the 2.0's are rather ticky. I figured wow must be just that cold and a bad cold start, let it sit in hopes it would stop when it warmed up 15-20 later.

It didn't stop.... so i drove it from its spot around my parking lot very slowly because i wasn't at operating temperature + the clutch/trans felt stiff still. After a minute of driving the lights came off i came to a stop to check how it was at idle. No loud ticking (sounded normal) lights off and car was acting normal

So was just wondering if anyone could tell me if they think there is something wrong? or if it was due to -40
Any opinion would help, just want to make sure that Audrina is okay lol

Note: When i saw the lights and was waiting for the car to warm up, i instantly pulled up google and searched the lights in combination. I came up with a result more then once saying that its a bad MAF. Could that mean this is signs mine is on its way out?

    Thanks in advance

I had this happen to me about a month ago. After two days my cel went off and stayed off. More search would come up with coil packs and one other thing besides mas. I am positive that I have stock plugs and what nots, so it is time for me to do a tune up. I chalked it up to that. Btw when mine happened it was cold and it started bad, I pressed the gas pedal while it was turning over also. You can go get it scanned to find out for sure, but maybe with the cold weather and in need of a tune up it threw your cel and traction light.
What ever makes sense go with the opposite and you got it

My car had a hard time starting up this morning too with the windchill at -30-40 but it did not act as yours did. Mine just slowly cranked over and then after about 20 seconds of trying it fired up and ran fine.

Glad to hear yours started to run better but I would still scan for codes to make sure its nothing that needs to be fixed. Other than that check the basics.

Theres been alot of talk on this recently. My car does it also and if u scan it it should give you the P2101 code for the Throttle body actuator.

When its cold the throttle body has a fit and has a mind of its own. Mine did it again this morning.

Just had this this too... Track control and EPC light on w/ a rough idle.... I shut her down and came back out about 10 mins later and it went away... I also replaced the coil packs yesterday, which, I thought might have been related..... Its been pretty damn cold across the U.S., so maybe the crazy low temps are doing something to our cars....

Its the throttle body actuator, gets intermittent in really cold temps

Thanks for all the replies guy

It happened again to me this morning again before going out at 6am... this time i left it for 30 mins and tryed driving...it didnt let me go faster then 10 kmh or higher rpm then i think 2200

Guess because i drove around a parking lot i never tried to go faster then that and didn't notice this...after driving around my street at 10kmh for 5-10 minutes i stopped in front of my house and restarted it and it drove normal and lights went off.

Went and got it scanned also came to the conclusion of throttle body actuator.

    Dont have a solution...

Apparently this is a thing for the b7 a4's in extremely cold temperatures

Try cleaning your TB if that helps.
I know you also have to re-line it once you have cleaned it.
I had done that to mine a while back.
Maybe that might help you or as you said; it might be on its way out.

I got the TB wiring TSB done and it has solved my issue, the car runs perfect now even at -23 Celcius

I dont remember the exact TSB number but if you search for it you`ll find it. This is also a problem for some volkswagens too:
