Problem after replacing the serpentine belt

I apologize, my searching ability is getting rusty.....found threads but cannot find the right answer

Anyways, finally tackle the job of replacing the serpentine/drive belt along with coolant flush and oil change.

--My mechanic didn't able to replace the serp. belt along with the timing belt coz he didn't have it in stock.

After the install, loud high pitch noise can be heard from the belt and it does go away once engine gets warm. Tried bleeding the coolant but once I turned the A/C on, the noise came back and it's loud as F***. Looked at the belt and it looks kinda wiggly...turned off the car coz the noise was too annoying.

Tried it again after an hour or so, noise is still there til' the engine gets warm. Left the car running without doing anything and the noise came back once again

such an easy job and is now giving me a headache.....

    Checked power steering fluid....its good
I also made sure that I put the right amount of oil and coolant.

    More info:
car is an 02' 1.8T quattro MT
forgot where I bought the belt but IIRC, I input my VIN to make sure I get the right one
    -Part number: 06B 903 137 D
I compared the new belt with the old worn out belt and I can tell that the new one is longer or bigger in diameter.

    Any help/tips/advise would be great!

    Thanks in Advance!

I'm not sure if you have the correct belt installed; but the sound you mentioned = loose belt

    ^^This

Sounds like you need the shorter belt.

The noise that you describe is the belt slipping. You need a smaller one

Use the old belt to buy the new one

    Good luck

The belt you gave is the correct number for 2002>early 2004 1.8T's.

    06B 903 137 D = 1590mm length

There is a vin split in the 2004 model year (8E-4-191 000), above which a shorter belt is used:

    06B 903 137 J = 1572mm length

I'm not certain what necessitates the shorter belt. As far as I can tell, the rest of the parts are the same: crank pulley, alternator, power steering pump, bracket, idler, tensioner, etc.

In any case, if your new belt is longer than your old one, you probably need to a get a shorter belt. If you can't read or determine what that is, I'd probably start with the "137 J" belt from the 2004 model.

    Thanks for all the feedback!

Buying the other belt was my last resort and I guess that's the only solution I have. It is the culprit after all.
Only reason I asked is I've read somewhere that the belt does adjust, tighten itself but I guess that's not the case here

    Thanks again!

I had a similar problem when I did my timing belt job. It ended up being the idler pully (not the tensioner, the pully/roller under that).

There's two belts 1570 and 1590, you need the 1570.

I had a similar problem, finally fixed for good with this. It has teeth instead of grooves.

1570mm belts (OE, Continental and the cheap belts at the local auto stores) all screamed. I saw rave reviews about these belts in a domestic forum...and gave it a try. They are around $20 on amazon. I used part no 4060620, it's 1575mm vice 1570, but appeared to be shorter than the Continental 1570 that is in my possession with only 1000 miles on it, it's thicker as well. When I threw it on, I noticed the tensioner sat different and created much more tension. Not a peep since.
