    Hello gars7,

Just to inform you that I tried the feature and I set the timer and the ventilation works. I did everything that you described in your post and I also enebeled bit 3 and 4, that are described in my post #393. It is really great feature in these hot days

And just one more maybe stupid question. Is it possible to code the aux. heater remote control? I do not know if it comunicate to some antenna on the real webasto or it comunicate with the car antenna (same as normal key). The cost of aux. remote is not so big, so it would be nice to have a remote to enable ventilation.

What do you think about that?

    Mojito:

Glad to hear the process worked for you!

I have not looked into requirements for coding a remote key with auxiliary heating/ventilation. My key fob does not have that capability, that is, it has no button for controlling auxiliary heating on the fob. It seems to me that there are two questions: (1) will Audi sell a key fob with the additional button and (2) will they code it?

If Audi will sell and provision the key fob, then that is probably the best way to proceed, that way all buttons on the key fob will work appropriately, albeit at some expense!

Instead, if your intention to source and provision an alternative remote control just for the auxiliary ventilation, then I defer to other readers of this thread - they can better advise you regarding what type of remote control to purchase, etc.

I am still a bit confused on how the aux heating/ventilation feature works... I've tried setting it up on my '14 TDI but I had no additional menus or anything else available...

    McFuzz,

The best explanation I have read of the Auxiliary Ventilation feature was (see below) at http://www.audienthusiasts.com/VagCom_AuxVent.html. Page 1 gives implementation directions (now a bit dated due to changes in the Engineering Menu, see research on this thread by Mojito and me). The second page gives usage directions.

    McFuzz,

I will try to write a little guide on how I eneble aux. ventilation on A6 and A7:

    1. You need to enable hidden menu on your car and you need VagCom to do it. you can enable hidden menu with this coding that you can also find it on the first page:

    Enable Hidden menu in MMI
    [5F - Information Electr.]
    [Adaptation - 10] -> Channel 6
    change 0 to 1

    2. It is best to do a reset of the MMI (See picture) and after reset you need to open hidden menu. you need to press "MENU" and "CAR" at exactly the same time (this is a little bit tricky) for about 5-6 seconds. You will know that you pressed them at same time if there is no red light on the knob MENU and CAR when pressed. The hidden menu or so called green menu should start loading.

    3. Now you need to enable 2. things.

Go to car/cardevicelist and find Auxiliary Heating. Enable it by pressing the big round MMI knob.
Then go back to the main page of the green menu and go to car/carmenuoperation and find Auxiliary Heating line. Select it by pressing the big MMI knob and then set value to 5 by rotating the big MMI knob. Once again press the big MMI knob to conform selection and then exit the green menu by pressing CAR knob (or any other knob (MEDIA, RADIO, PHONE, ...).

    Once again reset MMI.

    4. Now you need to activate another 2 bits using VagCom and the procedure is also described on the first page, but I am posting it again:

    [08 - Auto HVAC] [Coding - 07] -> Long Coding Helper -> Byte 1
    Bit 3 – Set to 1
    Bit 4 – Set to 1

Now you need to press the CAR knob and then select Car systems (low left corner) and you should have new menu "Auxiliary Heater". In this menu you can set timers when you want to start ventilaton or how long do you want to keep ventilation on after you leave the car.

I hope that is understandable guide. :)

    Mojito,

This is a good, clear guide. I have two suggestions: (1) Post it in the tweaks section on the ross-tech site and (2) ask the moderator to make it a sticky here for ease of reference.

    Thanks again!

    Most excellent - thank you!

I remember, vaguely, reading that the ventilation can be turned on automatically once the key is detected within range or car unlocked...? Is that true? Also is it possible to set up temperature thresholds as opposed to time?

    Thanks!

As I know you only have 2 options:
    1. You can only set 3 different timers, when do you want your car to be ready for departure and the time (10 min to 60 min) for how long do you want ventilation to work before departure time.
    2. You can set the vents for how long (10 min to 60 min) do you want them to work after you turn off your car. This is usefu when you go to some store or when you leave the car for a short period of time, so it stay cool when you return.

You can not set temperature (as I know) and your car will just ventilate with the air form outside, so your car will not be very hot, but will be roundly so hot as outside air temperature. So in my opinion there is no point to set temperature, because you can not actually cool down your car like with climate control.

Correction: I found in the manual, that you can set temperature. To be more specific, if you have a real aux. heater installed (which we do not, or we would have aux. heater menu enabeled by default), your car will warm up to the temperature that was last set on your climate control. For aux. ventilation there is no temperature set I think from the reasons I described above.

Thank you for the write up, Mojito! It worked flawlessly and actually cooled my car fairly nicely today considering it was 85F when I stepped out!

    Battery Gauge in MMI

I have a 2014 RS7 (North American) and am having difficulty enabling the battery gauge in the MMI.

I have checked the relevant Engineering Menu items in the /car/carextdevicelist and /car/carmenuoperation screens and rebooted the MMI. However, no entry for the battery gauge appears under the Car Systems MMI menu.

I have made no VCDS entries regarding this functionality.

Are others having the same issue? What have I missed?

    Suggestions gratefully received!

Anyone try getting the battery meter to work. Went into hidden menu and enabled but can't see where to set it up through vcds. Any suggestions? The one on the b8 platform gives an error when going to the channel it suggests.

Where did you find it in the hidden menu? Do you have a link to the B8 guide? Might be able to use that to find where it would be for the C7 A6 platform.

Anyone know how to disable the taillight side marker bulbs? I got the front amber side marker bulbs turned off, but the rear ones are still on, and totally spoil the look of the A6 facelift tails.

    n/m I figured it out on my own;

To disable the tail light side marker bulbs on post-facelift A6/S6:

    Central Convenience
    Security code: 16017
    Adaptations
    Enter Channel 207
Change value to 0 (my stock value was 51201)
    Enter Channel 208

anyone know how to remove the passenger airbag warning from the DIS when the car is started?

i think this is new for the 2016 models because my 2014 never did this. there is a module for airbag in vcds but most of it has to do with "igniters" and i'm not going to monkey around with those but the one adaptation in there deals with either activating or blocking but doesn't seem to help, actually gives a warning if changed from factory status.

I have a 2014 NAR RS7 C7 and was attempting the same tweak. I checked on the Ross-Tech site (I am a VCDS user) with the following thread:

    http://forums.ross-tech.com/showthread.php?3256-RS7-MMI-Battery-Gauge&p=33353#post33353

I received a reply from vlarsen:

"The Battery meter is no longer available - if you want the meter, you need to buy an older model - and this can not be one from the A7/S7/RS7 range."

You may encounter the same difficulty.

I wish I had more optimistic information to convey.

Unless there is an explorer on the forum who can comb through the settings via vag com on their computer not sure where it is to enable the meter. Under hidden menu its fairly simple, enable and change setting to 5 but no idea where to change in vehicle settings byte.

I received a reply from vlarsen:

"The Battery meter is no longer available - if you want the meter, you need to buy an older model - and this can not be one from the A7/S7/RS7 range."

You may encounter the same difficulty.

I wish I had more optimistic information to convey.
    That is unfortunate

    Hello guys,

I found on the other forum another great feature for all the cars that do not have audi connect and google maps installed and I think that was not posted yet here. You can eneble WI-FI via hidden menu (how to enable hidden menu is described in first post of this thread). After that you will get new media source (when you are in MEDIA menu you press source - right upper button and you will have new wi-fi source on the list) you will also have new menu in telephone for wi-fi settings. With this enebeled, you can use audi stream music app on your android phone or iPhone. Now what I am trying to find out is if I can use Wi-FI as a client. with that I could use my phone as a hot-spot and share 3G data with the car. This way I could probabbly use google maps in my car. I know that you can do this on the new VW platform (Golf 7, new Passat) and if this setting can be set on all devices (home computers, phones, ...) I do not see the reason why this wouldl not work in the Audi. I found a guide where you can eneble google maps with AMI+AMI USB cable+router+Ethernet cable+script for MMI... but I do not want to do that hack, because there is to much cable involved and I do not like hacking MMI with unofficial scripts. :) How to enable WI-FI in hidden menu:

    1. /diagnose/settings/WLAN_Settings enable WLAN Activation
    2. /diagnose/settings/tel_settings enable NAD activation and NAD operation mode

Any suggestions how to use wi-fi as a client?

Thank you for posting this. I have a facelift Canadian model so I don't have the SIM card slot plus likely most of the background hardware/firmware so am very interested in using my phone as a Wi-Fi hotspot. However, when playing around with the Media Source function I found this:

and then clicking on Settings showed this:

Anyway, I am lost when it comes to this stuff (and VCDS 15.6.1 Beta doesn't appear quite ready for prime time yet) so I haven't attempted any changes.
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

    Hello Spidey9999,

Did you enable wi-fi using my guide with hidden menu or you already have wi-fi enabled from factory?? Only with wi-fi you can not do much (you can only stream online or local music from your phone or tablet with the Audi Connect Music Stream App, that you can find on android market or app store from apple. As you I am also trying to find a way how to send 3G data to the car, so that I could then enable Google Maps in the car MMI. You could only do that if you could set the car wi-fi setting to be a client. That way you could set your phone as a hotspot and then connect your car to your phone having internet connection (but in this way you could not connect other devices to the car wi-fi), but that is not an option in the car settings so no internet with the hotspot. I am looking for solution, where I could retrofit a SIM card feature to my car.

Now I am asking if someone have installed a car phone (inside the armrest of the car) if they can use google maps and other online services, because in the car phone you must enter SIM card. Just thinking! :)

I have the issue on my S6 where I have the sim card slot for google maps - but my cell provider won't / says they can't issue me with a extra sim card that is tied to the same number as my actual cell phone - so if i stick in an extra sim card - i can get data and google maps going but it then boots my cell phone off so i dont get mobile calls through the car via bluetooth.

just crazy that you cant link the car to use your mobile data as a hotspot for things like google maps etc! if someone can find a work around for that it would be awesome

This shows that it can be done, should not be different from a phone with internet sharing.

Yes it can be done, with additional hardware but we are looking for a solution, how to change car built in wi-fi from hotspot mode, to client mode. I do not like additional hardware in my car that must be plug on 12V charger the whole time. :)

AR just doesn't let anyone direct link to their site since they are God's great gift to the Audi world

I have no idea how to run scripts on the MMI, can someone enlighten me there?

    But on the harware front,
I'm wondering if it's possible to use the following (#2 below) and not have to have a separate USB hub...

1.) AMI to Female USB (not sure why it says Mercedes yet sticker has Audi rings)
    +
2.) TRENDnet USB 3.0 to Gigabit Adapter + USB Hub TU3-ETGH
    +
    3.) TP-LINK TL-MR3020 3G/4G Wireless N150 Portable Router, AP/WISP/Router Mode
