- "Ender's Game" premieres in Los Angeles
- Leading actors Ford and Butterfield among the guests
- Science fiction car Audi fleet shuttle quattro on the red carpet
It's premiere time for the Audi fleet shuttle quattro - the futuristic Audi can now be seen in theaters in the movie "Ender's Game". Even at a scaled-down size, the sci-fi car dazzled on the red carpet during the movie's premiere at the Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles, along with leading stars Harrison Ford, Asa Butterfield, Hailee Steinfeld, Ben Kingsley, Viola Davis and Abigail Breslin. For the movie's launch, the Audi design team built an illuminated model at a scale of 1:4. In contrast, the car that was driven in the movie by Harrison Ford, alias Hyrum Graff, exists only in the virtual world.
For the first time, the Audi designers created an exclusively digital car for the Hollywood production. They worked without a physical model and designed the car entirely on a computer. When shooting the scenes the actors drove an Audi A7 Sportback. Digital Domain, the company responsible for the movie's special effects, used computer-generated imagery to replace the A7 with the digital Audi fleet shuttle quattro during post-production.
"It was a very special moment for me when I finally saw our sci-fi Audi on the silver screen," said Björn Wehrli of the team of designers, which drew inspiration for the progressive car design from the futuristic world created for the movie by director Gavin Hood. "We have created a car for a world in about 75 years, which integrated itself perfectly into the high-tech atmosphere of the movie."
Waybe A. Kennedy, Asset Supervisor for Digital Domain, praised the good teamwork with the Audi designers: "We wanted to work with experts who had an understanding of how the design of the future might look. This is exactly what Audi achieved with its sci-fi design."
After its brief appearance in the spotlight, the 1:4 scale model of the Audi fleet shuttle quattro will be given a place of honor in the Audi Design Studio. The virtual car, on the other hand, can be seen by science fiction fans in theaters right now.
