What is safe to use on my AWE tips to keep them clean ? They recommend soap & water

Yep. Those look identical to mine. I always used only soap and water. But now they won't even come clean at all without fine steel wool or a green scotchbrite pad along with polish.

Bar Keepers Friend. No brainer and works AMAZING. Been using it on my AWE tips for years. Super easy to use, zero scratching and very inexpensive.

Dump some powder on a micro cloth, add a bit of water to form a paste and presto, they will look better than when they left the factory.

I just got AWE exhaust with Diamond Black tips today, so I'm hoping someone finds something that works on these!

I used Collonite No. 850 Metal Wax on my stock tips, and it impressed me every time how clean and shiny it got them. Never noticed any scratches either, but I'm afraid to try it on the diamond black.

Maybe someone (Phil, mopz) with a little more detailing knowledge than myself can help out?

Collonite is amazing. Been using it on my SS APR tips for over 4 years, they look like new, and because it's a polish and a wax, you can use a clean rag to wipe them down weekly to easily remove all carbon and don't have to reapply but every few months.

Oven cleaner.. Spray it on, wait 30 minutes, then hit it was a soft sponge.... Nice and shiny

The spots are discloration I cleaned them all I could. Is yours the same after you polish them?

Yes, they won't go away. I'm pretty sure its pitting.

I used a scotch Brite pad on my chrome tips and it took the chrome finish right off. It left scratches and still didn't remove the gold or brass stains I was trying to clean. It was one of those yellow and green kitchen sponges. It really sucks. Anybody know what those stains are?

Car is still new but when the whole car received opti-coat pro the tips were coated. So far just washing with soap and water removes everything.
AWE, if you want to send me a blem black tip I can get my guy to coat it and then you can see how hard it is to destroy it with non-abrasive cleaners, I think you'll be surprised how durable it is.
Honest the coating on the paint is truly amazing.

I want to clean this off but not sure which is the best way without stripped the plating. General consensus would be no polishes? I'd also assume fine steel wool is out of the question for the black coating either...

I use rim cleaner! Used on my black diamond tips and chrome
It works amazing..Just make sure to use soap and water after to finish up.

Here is the answer...

As mentioned previously, clean them with this to get them nice and shiny, and dry them off really well:



Then buy this and coat the inside of the exhaust tips (and anything else you want to coat on your car, like your wheels to repel brake dust), then thank me later...

Your subsequent cleanings with soap and water will be effortless.

Someone mentioned never dull previously but that person had stainless steel tips...is this safe to use on the diamond black coating?

From what I've read polishes shouldn't be used on it as it might cause the black to flake off

Thats what I want to know. I also saw someone mention the never dull so I picked it up at my local walmart. Haven't used it yet. Recently picked up the AWE black tips so once I finally install them Ill need to know how to keep em clean without damaging.

Try it on the inside.. if it doesn't damage your good to go. if not, stop and use something less aggressive.

Mine came in good condition, all i had to do is degreaser and then I applied 2 coat of Carpro Dlux. never had any problem. After every wash they come out ''perfect''. But I have no trouble believing that this black coating is weak and could flake with something aggresive like a metal polish or scuff easily with a wool 0000 and then your stuck with marks..

AWE created an awesome exhaust, now they should work on finding a tougher black coating :)

I scuffed my tips with a Scotch-Brite pad and then the painted them with high temperature engine paint. I have a nice flat black looked at them now. No need to clean ever.

I bought Carb and throttle body cleaner last night which is made to clean gumming and carbon deposit.

I can confirm that it did not damage the black coating. However, it was not very successful with breaking up the caked on carbon buildup. Might have to try one of these other options

What specific carb and throttle body cleaner did you use?

The pics below are after attempting to use Adam's car shampoo and water to clean the inside of my tips (just the left one; the right one I left untouched), but it didn't really do much. Anyone have any suggestions on what else I could use that won't damage the black diamond finish? I think inside the tips is rust, but im not 100% sure. It also looks like after I tried cleaning it with the water and shampoo that the finish started sort of coming off near the bottom of the left tip. I may try detail spray soon but don't know how much that will help
