    1. Year and model of car: 2006 A4
    2. What radio did the car come with from the factory. (It doesn't matter if you have Bose): Symphony II
3.Does the car have steering wheel controls?: Yes

I'm installing a Nexus 7, so all I really want is steering wheel controls that I can capture using Joycon EXR/EXD, plus 12V switched power, 12V constant, and GND. I'm installing aftermarket amps and running new speaker wire to new component speakers, so I will not be utilizing any stock wiring.

    Thanks!

The switched 12 is a .5 amp signal that is meant to be a turn on signal. If you are powering the tablet with the switched lead you must use a relay to reinforce it.

All power is coming from the battery via 4GA wire to a distribution block in the trunk - DCDC-USB is being used to supply 5V filtered power to the tablet. I'll only be using the 12V switched to connect to the DCDC-USB ignition input and to the amplifier turn on input.

Already have radio removal tools. If my research is correct, you should have all of the harnesses for a direct plug-and-play. Just being overly cautious. Thanks for the help.

I see only two radio removal tools being recommended. Don't I need 4? Also if I move up to a higher model that's still in the DDX family will the parts be the same? Thanks.

I had a pioneer x940bt installed. I purchased the following from Enfig:

    Enfig RWH-AUD2-HILO
    Enfig SRWH-AUD2
    Enfig AAA-VWAUD2
    Enfig PNP-PIO0176
    Enfig EXT-FAKRA-16FT
    Enfig GAA-PIO2

I replaced it as I thought it was broken due to the subwoofer rca's not working. Now I have a Kenwood DNX-890HD.

I purchased the PNP from Enfig:

    http://enfigcarstereo.com/ENFIG_PNP_KEN0016.html

So after adjusting the eq I was able to get some bass from the sub. Still would like christians input if i've got something missing or to look for.

Troubleshooting process- If this appears confusing please let me know and i'll try and clarify what i've done.

Well I finally got around to checking things per christian.

    1. Removed the RWH-AUD2-HILO from Enfig. Connected the SRWH-AUD2 rca's to the HU front/rear rcas
    - No audio from front/rear speakers but the sub now had audio coming through
    - Sub rcas connected to the radio sub pre-outs
Signal flow: Radio->enfig pnp kenwood harness->srwh-aud2->oem harness

    2. Reconnected the RWH-AUD2-HILO and the rca's from the srwh-aud2, grounded the hilo to a new tap
    - No sub audio, but the front and rear speakers now worked again
    - Fading audio levels now resolved
    - Sub rcas connected to the radio sub pre-outs
Signal flow: Radio->enfig pnp kenwood harness->RWH-AUD2-HILO->SRWH-AUD2->oem harness

    3. Reconnected the RWH-AUD2-HILO and the rca's from the srwh-aud2, grounded the hilo to a new tap, connected rcas from the rca tap at the bose amp harness in the trunk
    - Sub audio works (plays all freqs), front/rear speakers work
    - No rcas connected to the headunit

    Summary

So what i've learned is that the pioneer and kenwood units both have the same issue (no sub audio when connected directly off the HU preouts). I've checked and triple checked al the connections. I'm at a loss and i've currently connected the sub using the tap from the bose amp harness in the trunk. I could really use some guidance here.

You paid an extra $100 for the RWH-AUD2-HILO. When you use this device you no longer use the RCA outs from the radio. The HILO becomes your new RCA outs.

There is nothing wrong with your radios. The almost zero sub and half volume rear speakers are why you purchased the HILO. It's a known issue on Audis. Google "Audi low rear audio"

This may be the single best post to show everyone why they need the HILO. You thought your radio was broken you just needed the HILO.
Edit post because I thought we were talking about the factory sub.

I'd say the amp. What amp? Make sure there isn't a input voltage setting. My JL amp has a setting. The factory output from the Hilo is probably twice what the pioneer radios RCA puts out.

Thank for the fast answer, did i need the SRWH-AUD2-HILO if i wanted to replace the stock amp, or just need the SRWH-AUD2? My main interest is to not loose the steering wheel control.

You need to let Christian know what radio you want, otherwise he can't suggest the correct harnesses.

This thread is here so Christian can tell people what parts they need when they replace stock with aftermarket. If you aren't replacing your head unit, what are you trying to do?

No problem. I have the same shitty radio, and there's no aux input mod for it. You'll have to replace it - or use one of the old cassette aux-in adapters.

I'm leaning towards installing a standard head unit instead of my Nexus, so...

    1. Year and model of car: 2006 Audi A4
    2. What radio did the car come with from the factory. (It doesn't matter if you have Bose): Symphony II
    3. Does the car have steering wheel controls?: Yes
    4. What is the brand and model number of your new radio?: Parrot Asteroid Smart
    5. Are you going to be using a Sirius XM satellite tuner if yes which one?: No

I will also be installing an aftermarket amp (haven't decided yet) and new speakers (Rockford Fosgate P165-S and Pioneer TS-SW841D shallow mount subwoofer) at some point, but until then I'll suffer with stock speakers.

I think I'll need to buy Parrot's UNIKA adapter for the steering wheel controls to work. Is that correct?
