    Valve Cover Torque Spec

I'm in the process of re-sealing my valve cover as I had an oil leak on the pass side.

Anyone know the proper torque rating for the valve cover bolts?

Every car I've done them on was 10-11 ftlbs. I just did my 20vt today.

I did 8 ftlbs. I tested loosening a couple bolts and it seemed similar to when I took it apart, maybe slightly easier. I haven't fired it up yet, I let the RTV cure overnight. Maybe I'll tighten them a little more.

Where did you get the new valve cover gasket? Was it a fairly easy DIY?

I wouldn't say it was a walk in the park. Wasn't terrible either. Removing the HPFP and loosening the timing chain cover were the worst parts as the clearance between them and the firewall/rad respectively are quite tight.

Also, funny about the gasket, I found up my local dealer and asked about a price on a gasket, turns out they don't have one. But for $120CA I could have bought a toothpaste tube of gussied-up RTV with an audi logo on it.

    I didn't buy the tube.

Here's the only pictures I took.
You can see the grooves where the sealant is supposed to sit on the cover, and where some sealant was still stuck to the engine.

Thanks. I've been thinking about servicing mine... I have a little bit of oil around the valve cover -- not a full on leak.

Mine had progressed to a full on leak. There were some spots on the cover where the gasket material was nearly gone.
