RS5 downpipes....are those resonators or secondary catalytic converters on there?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Guys,

I'm thinking about removing the what ever those things are on the downpipes. Are those secondary cats or resonators? It seems pretty like a pretty common thing to do on the benz and beemer boards, and I don't want to wait for AWE to come out with downpipes. An idea what those are? I need some more volume and noise :)

Those are resonators, you could always just buy a set of non resonated downpipes when available incase you want to go back to stock one day, but yes you could just cut them out too. However dunno what it would sound like, might be too loud and drone at low RPM's.

The section just before the actual mufflers, replaced it with straight piping.

Im actually looking to do the same thing. What are the details? Type of steel? Hows the sound 1-10? Did you have sport exhaust? Any droning? Got a vid? My apologies for bombing you with questions! Haha

I did the same thing with my GT500. Took it to the shop and had them cut them off, using the correct diameter piping and curvature. I didnt ask about the type of metal they used but it a great shop, they built headers and entire set-ups from scratch. It only took them about 1 hour to do the job. IMO it sounds very racy, just plain bad ass to me. I was very disappointed with the way the sport exhaust sounded, just to quiet for me. The only vid I have is a very short section of the Vossen video we did. Its a WOT and you only hear it for about 2 seconds lol. Sorry man. I dont want to bore you with the vid but it starts at like 0:40 and again at 1:03

    Hey Chris,

The downpipes are after the cats, and there are small resonators in the stock downpipes. In terms of waiting for us, it won't be long.

Very cool. Did it just amplify the stock sound more or did it change the sound a bit?

Are we talking weeks or months? I would love to add downpipes to my sport exhaust rather than spending $2500+ for a complete exhaust system.

Supersprint already has front pipes for sale....I think they are like $1k though. Also, if you take a look at the "sport exhaust" system, you will cry at how many crushes and bends it has from the factory. Def robbing huge power.

That is what your $1k sport exhaust option on the RS5 looks like. I couldn't believe my eyes.

If my pipes show up like that...I am 100% having the dealer replace. Those pipes definatley will perform better without the dents.

I already said this in the other thread where you are posting this pic, but those look like detents put in the pipe intentionally to all ow for suspension and drivetrain to pass without hitting or rattling.
