Question to those that have done the A4/S4/A6 upper strut tower bar

I was going to install this as per this thread....

    http://audi-diy.blogspot.ca/2007/10/...rut-tower.html

The question is, my guy said that the S4 cross bar, part number 8D0 805 645 A, is no longer listed. He said the only parts listed that are close to this part number are 8D0 805 645 or 8D0 805 645 E, does anyone know if either are these are the same part? I can easily make it using the pics on the ECS site but it would be easier to buy the OEM part and drill a few extra holes.

GAP still lists 645A for for $64. GAP shows no listing for 645 or 645E.
^Don't listen to this guy, he's not even a mechanic.

ECS shows it as well but it would be far cheaper to make it than to have it shipped to Canada from the States. I checked in ETKA 5 and 7 and the part is there but it is not listed with a part number,

You can also use the C5 bar, which is pretty much the same thing but aluminum. Or you could just make one, it's literally 6 holes in a piece of flat stock and a few cuts at the corners for clearance.

I've had one of the a6 ones on my car since 2005. Still does what it needs to.

That's good to know, I have read a number of threads for this over the years and I didn't see that in any of them.

I've got an A6 bar on my B5 Passat. I had to cut it a bit shorter and re-drill one end to fit it to the narrower B5 chassis. Aluminum is easy to cut and drill. The end brackets fit with no modification. I also attached the bar to the center of the outer firewall like they do on the A6. Two holes and two bolts is all that's required to do that part. The hard part is the limited access to that area. I also had to carefully/gently bend one of the AC hard lines a slight bit to gain clearance for the passenger side bracket.

Pretty much exactly what I did/had to do to fit mine. Except instead of cutting one end off I cut a little off each end so that inner hole became the outer and drilled 2 new inner holes, everything lines up perfectly. Had to buy a right angle drill adaptor for the firewall holes, then I found some nice looking allen bolts with massive fender washers in my bolts bin, looks OEM. Best part is I got it all for free since I grabbed it with along with $250 of parts form the junkyard, they didn't even care about the bar and brackets.
