    Update:
After tracing the oil flow, the solution is not welding or modifying the oil pump at all any more. The solution is to block the oil passage coming from the block back to the balance shafts. As shown in the pictures. This allows the remaining shaft to be oiled and NOT lose oil pressure.
That hole was taped and will have a 1/4in pipe plug permanently installed. Problem solved. If doing this, I highly suggest pulling all plugs on the block so they can be brushed and pressure cleaned.20200615_113325.jpeg20200615_112022.jpeg20200615_113053.jpeg

ok dumb question .. if you took the oil pump out why wouldn't you just tap and plug the pump? seems a little easier job that doing the block.

Cast iron is much easier to tap and safer. You could absolutely do the pump instead. I chose the block since I'm pulling all the plugs and our we have more cast iron taps the aluminum in that size.

Not sure if this was answered, I'm still reading the thread 🧵... The holes in the bearings that are pressed into the block at the opposite end of the balance shafts, they line up with oil holes in the block. To block them off, if assume you would replace them with the bearing spun 180° so the hole in the bearing doesn't match the hole in the block. I'd have to make sure with looking at it when I pull the next one apart, but this is generally what is done to other motors when deleting balance shafts. This is only if the balance shafts aren't spinning at all of course, otherwise it's going to be a grenade. Really I don't see the need to block those oil passages unless you have removed the balance shafts entirely, because the clearance between the balance shaft and bearing is still the same whether it's spinning or not.

How are you running the coolant pump with the balance shafts cut?

Disregard, I'm guessing this is not the same as what's in my mark 6 gti. 🤷*♂️

There are no "bearings" on the BS's, that's part of the issue. If not cutting/removing the shafts, ya don't need to block the ports, like with a freewheel. But freewheel is only good if shafts are still good and tight(clearance). If they are worn/loose, then freewheel only isn't a solution.
Also rem to check/replace cooling jets. Common cause of low idle pressure.

Yours were really worn. 99% of people that have BS failures, are on cars that never had the pump assembly inspected.

Yea i bought it for a 1,000$ during covid. at that time i didnt know or have any mechanical experience . I end up cutting my oil pump in half instead of buying the BS delete sprocket & plugged up oil passage as well .

Yeah you had to, freewheel wouldn't work with worn shafts.
