Yea I did it on the car. It should be cake, but there's absolutely no clearance between it and the firewall so its just infuriating.

The sealant sucks. It's that candy-like red-orange crap all over the cam cradle, in the grooves. I used Elring Dirko as a replacment (recommended by Tyler@IE) and its probably 10000x easier to deal with. The factory stuff is like trying to chip off super glue that's heat hardened to the block and cradle.

I ended up getting a bunch of gasket remover and letting it soak in multiple stages over the course of a few hours then scraped it off with a pick and razor blade. Took forever.

Yep if you try to do it on the car you need a super shallow t30 to get between the firewall and head, and then there is one bolt that you need to pull the coolant flange to get to. Not the most fun thing to do.

So the top portion of the head deals to the bottom using this thick black sealant it's a real bitch to clean off, almost impossibruuuuuu!

And then if you take it apart you have those stretch bolts you have to replace! A poor $40 investment

Dude I couldn't believe how caked on the combustion side of the valves it was, I thought it just built up on the stems

I know you're SUPPOSED to replace the bolts, but I didn't and don't have any issues (knock on wood). I think swapping them out at this point would cause the gasket to unseal so I'm not even going to bother. I might check that they're tight though next time I've got some spare time to remove the VC though. I still need to refresh my VC bolts. the rubber gaskets on a bunch of them are pretty toasted...

you'll be fine. I'm going to re-use those bolts also. My cam tool gets in Friday I don't wanna wait that long! I'm going to literally just bolt the head down, time it up, and do a compression test. Want to make sure I fixed cylinder 3 with the new valve. If that turns out good she goes back together and I drive a car that's not older than me

Mine are the same way. Have you searched for those damn bolts yet? $5.26 a piece on Europa!!! Haven't searched very hard yet, but thinking about just finding some replacement high temp rubber gaskets and calling it a day.

I think I'd priced them from GAP to like $40-50 total. But yea, retardedly expensive.

Clint the timing tool isn't strictly necessary. I didn't use it when I replaced my cam and have no timing issues, just mark all the things. I'm sure you can figure it out, haha, you don't need a dunce like me telling you your business.

well I kept the cams on the chain. I assume as long as the cam gear matches up it doesn't matter where they are. Hopefully I don't bend a valve - that would be some solid karma

I used Elring Dirko (Muhammad Jihad). Tyler@IE recommended it to me. Seems to be sealing just fine, no leaks that I've seen since January.

ok question. I have a spot on the intake manifold with literally nothing there and there are no hoses around it which is really confusing. Its a fairly big nipple that faces the firewall... what should be going to that?

Mine isn't connected to anything. It just has a rubber nipple cover held on by a clamp

got it. I guess that makes sense. Weird that his nipple is missing, will just need to cap it. Thanks Jeff!

Just go to a hardware store and get a plug. I use a couple of the bolt style plugs (fits in rubber, and then you tighten a bolt into it to squish it air tight) around my engine bay.

Clint buys a broken B7, and fixes it

That's where Audi does their boost test, where Podi installs the boost tap.

    $15 at the dealer
