RNS-E Ribbon Cable Issues - Avant Sub Question

    Morning!

Recently picked up a nice B7 A4 Avant that has an RNS-E installed. When I bought it, there was an issue wherein the screen of the RNS-E unit was jarbled, reminiscent of a old tube TV that wasn't tuned in perfectly to the right frequency. Imagine that the screen looked like this (but with the colors of the RNS-E display instead of what you see here):

On the way home, I took a break and fiddled with the radio for a bit and happened to realize the issue was being caused by the ribbon cable that plugs into the back of the screen. I was able to play with it a bit to get it to display correctly again, leading me to believe the issue is the ribbon cable not being fully or completely seated into the connector on the screen.

This brings me to my questions for everyone here: What, if any, methods do you recommend for securing the cable in place? I had thought about using tape, but the heat generated by the LCD screen would quickly melt or soften the glue to the point where it'd no longer adhere to the surface. Additionally, since I am not well versed in the unit itself, is it possible to remove the radio to perform a fix without running into issues when I go to reinstall the unit (i.e. security codes, etc)?

    *****

In an unrelated note... noticed some oddities about the subwoofer in the trunk. I noticed it sounds like its clipping, or that the sub is broken, but the levels are nowhere near a clipping volume and there dont appear to be any visual flaws with the cone or surround. Does anyone have any ideas on what to check, how to do it, and what can be done to fix it?

Since this got no replies, I thought I'd update things...

I found the issue to be the ribbon cable on the back of the screen. Ill have to take the radio out and look at it, but it would seem it's not fully seated into the connector on the back of the screen. I've been able to fix things for now by playing with the cable, but Im hoping for a more long-term fix soon.

Also, the voice coil is definitely going bad. Im going to be doing an upgrade to the OEM subwoofer via some new speakers I found at PartsExpress. Plan is to do a sort of retrofit. Hoping for good results! Will make a new thread about that soon.

It has been a while since the last post. Did you find a permanent solution for the problem?

I have a RNS-E unit with exact same problem. It worked perfectly for a while after installing to my car and then started flickering like that. I have made some trial and error tests with parts from another fully working unit and I am sure the problem is the motherboard where the ribbon cable from screen connects since none of the other parts (screen or cable) fixed the problem.

check the solders at the ribbon cable & mother board. the heat of the radio can damage the solder
